Heavy Rain is the worst Final Fantasy game. Confirmed!

??????????????

Sorry, but that's my opinion.

Either I dont get the joke here, or you are a bit confused man ;P

You don't need to get it. And i'm happy living in ignorance. :P

And to add something more than offtopic. I always dislike Teletext because of their harsh reviews (made just for the hits i bet). But is like what twestern (and others) said. Just opinions and they are as valid as other reviews.

Ah, another "praise/kill the review site depending on score" thread. This time it's pitchfork time.

Of all the many hypes we already saw this gen on all consoles, the one which emerged around Heavy Rain during the last few weeks feels like the strangest and most faked one to me. Quick time hype, so to speak.

emporers new clothes...?

I'm getting Heavy Rain and will play it through... but I think there is a strange elite attitude surrounding the game

It is almost as though it is impossible to criticise the game because Heavy Rain is somehow arty and high brow and that means it shouldnt be criticised because the developers have been brave.

Have played around 6 hours since yesterday, for any mature and rational person, this game is really good. Maybe thats why you get the elite feeling, a teenager or immature person will obviously not like this game. Its slow, its intelligent, its make you think, its definitly not like our usual blockbuster game.

Would you say that it's mature to say things like the bolded? I've played slow and intelligent games that made me think in the past and I've liked some and disliked some. The fact that the game has those traits doesn't mean that

(a) A person who dislikes it is immature, irrational or both

(b) The game is automatically good

Sure it was a generalisation.

I don't really care what Teletext has to say about this game.

But I am very surprised to see it currently has a 5.6 user rating on Metacritic based on 130 votes so far. What the hell?

The costumers are responding. It's like when MW2 got only 9+ reviews, and 3 in users review, after taking off features costumers like, such as Co-op, dedicated servers, etc. Heavy Rain should be taken at least 2 points out of the review just because of the amount of interativity there is on the games. Like I saw someone while playing the game commenting: "Why can't I play that thing?Would that be too fun for this game?Would that be actual gameplay?" (That Guy With The Glasses).

Above: still the best game of the year.

I agree here.  We all have different tastes.  I'm drawn to the emotional qualities of Heavy Rain, but the controls are off-putting.  I like the story concept, but the script is getting knocked (haven't played beyond demo yet so can't comment there).  Looks great, yet there's a weirdness there too.  Characters are great, yet in virtually every review there's a line about certain main characters not connecting with certain players.  High production values, but subpar voice acting.

Depending on what elements appeal most to you as a gamer - even a mature, thoughtful one - your mileage may vary.

My issue is more people judging the game as a whole when clearly they haven't played the game as a whole yet, which the vast majority of us haven't.  Maybe more of us will think it's 10's when we're done.  Maybe some more will think it's 5.  Who knows?

Always eliminate the top 3 or 4 scores and the bottom three or four scores from somewhere like metacritic and you'll get a good feel for what the game is really like.  The game is clearly a critical success and people should check it out.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

The thing I have with Heavy Rain is, it is a QTE(Quick Time Event) game with an intricate story and atmosphere...but we saw earlier games like Dragon's Lair (QTE game) and Shenmue which had a mixture of QTE and free roaming environments. What makes Heavy Rain so special????? Yes, I have played the demo a number of times. Also, won't most people want to save the girl at the sleezy place? Otherwise it would be going away from your own personality just to see an alternative action/event? Even though I found it interesting, the story and atmosphere, setting and graphics, but what is the gameplay, if it is not just a series of QTE????? How is it a benchmark game when Dragon's Lair and Shenmue had done a similiar style of gameplay before this? is it really any better than Fahrenheit for example?  is this the way forward for gaming?  Motion controller, maybe; but QTE I don't know..

Im gonna re-word that because its not really what I wanted to say: Have played around 6 hours since yesterday, for any imature or unrational person this game will not be good. Maybe thats why you get the elite feeling, a young or immature person will obviously not like this game. Its slow, its intelligent, its make you think, its definitly not like our usual blockbuster game. The fact you dont like the game doesnt mean your immature tho, because you may not like the gameplay, story or anything else.

OUCH

I refuse to believe it deserves that score

The production values ALONE should make it deserve over a 5 at the minimum.

Good game or not, that's just a horrible thing to say.

Are you saying just because a game has a lot of money or effort poured into it should automatically be set to a certain level?

I'm not saying Heavy Rain deserves that score, I don't know, I haven't played it, but to say it should get a minimum 5 for the production values alone is just flat out stupid.

When people talked about 2012 (the film) being an awesome movie, it was ONLY about the production values of the CGI world destruction. The movie literally had almost nothing else.... so yeah, production values like those give them quite a few points.

No, they don't.  I know Heavy Rain is advertised more as an interactive movie and all but it's still a game.  A game can still have incredibly high production values and be ass.

Three games that come up right off the top of my head are Lair, Too Human, and Lost: Via Domus.

Lair-- it was meant to show off the power of the PS3 and was touted as this super beautiful game with a fantastic score and cinematic events.  Everything production side was pretty top notch, too bad the game was terrible.

Too Human-- 10 year production cycle later with more hype than most games dreamed up and a pretty high production values and it was a giant embarassement.  Such an awful game.

Lost: Via Domus-- it may not have been a big budget game like the above two but it had pretty high production values, especially for a movie/TV show based game.  There was a fair amount of hype leading up to it (if you liked Lost) and it turned out to be one of the worst games of this generation.

So no, you don't get an automatic pass for production values.

Again, not even trying to imply that Heavy Rain might be bad or in any way compared to those above three mistakes, it has an 89 at the moment so I assume it's good, I'm just saying production values don't make the game.

Lost was a good game for fans of the show. I loved it.

You're probably not a real fan ;)

aouch

that'll hurt surely the score
