Forums - Gaming - Warner buys Rocksteady

Batman licence-holder Warner Bros. has bought Batman: Arkham Asylum maker Rocksteady Studios for an undisclosed sum.

Warner had already secured publishing rights to Batman sequel Arkham Asylum 2 from Eidos/Square Enix. This was the inevitable next step in the relationship, apparently.

Warner's plan from here is to publish more Batman games plus other titles "based on widely recognised Warner Bros. brands". After the company's recent spending splurge, these include properties like Mortal Kombat and The Lord of the Rings.

Hmm, where they owned by Eidos before? I don't hope Warner are going to go Batman-crazy and release Batman games all over the place...

I think Rocksteady was independent up until this point.

Bad for SE/Eidos and good for Warner Bros. Interactive I suppose. Provided Arkham Asylum 2 has similar commercial success as the first game.

Pixel Art can be fun.

YAY!, i can't wait for a Mortal Combat Detective Game, a Batman RPG and a Lord of the Rings Fighter!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Maybe after this, we will finaly start to see more great lincensed games with lots of potentional, like Batman AA.

Take my love, take my land..

Warner Bros. is really trying to become a force in gaming. Good for them. I wish more movie distribution studios/super hero IP owners would become interested.

Maybe we wouldn't end up with so many crappy movie games then! Batman Arkham and the Lego games are on a different playing level than all other movie/super hero games.

The guys at Rocksteady have payed their dues. Now they're in the big time. And since Warner owns DC comics (I never understood that. DC stands for "Detective Comics" so DC comics is like saying Detective Comics Comics. Plus, 90 percent of the characters AREN"T detectives.....) so maybe we'll be getting some games based on Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, or some of DC's less known heroes!!!

Especially Lego Indiana Jones 2! It must be the first game that is actually better than the Movie :D
