well consumers can buy whatever they like.
But big sales doesn't automatically equal quality.

Personally it's another game, where I hold my head in shame and ask myself what happened to gaming...
sad sad sad

What is happening to gaming? Maybe just offering something to people other than you? Is that so bad? Really?

first off all way to many replies to my post (which I expected)

What's happening to gaming is that games which are made in approx. 2 months dev time sell buttloads without having to be especially good, while on the other hands lots of high quality games barely make a profit, if at all.

and yes I blame the Wii for it. (and the consumers)

Oh and if Natal and Arc lead to the same result, I'll be ashamed of them as well obviously.

With this statement I'm outta here. Have a nice thread.

I don't agree with any of this...how can you rationalize blaming consumers for what they want?

It doesn't matter if a game cost 4 dollars to make, or 20mil, it's up to the developers to make there games appealing enough to sell "butltoads".

Why aren't the "hardcore" buying enough games?

You think I'm going to spend my money on something I don't like?

Its utter fatuity to blame me for the collapse of the "hardcore" market for buying a game I like, and want to play. Just like it would be just as stupid for me to get mad at you, and blame you for buying a game you like because the one I like isn't selling as good.

Im new here, but this doesn't make sense at all to me...is this kind of thinking shared by alot?

Wrong. It's buying the core games that let them know. More great core games have to be put on the Wii and people will buy them, not niche games presented as tests.

And the core games don't seem to sell enough, while games like Just Dance are selling millions.

Now, put a whole bunch of money/effort into creating a new core game on Wii with a risk of it bombing... Or quickly make Just Dance 2 with extra tracks, more moves, a few more features, and guarentee an easy profit.

I know which route i would take if i were a developer.

wait. let me guess, the core games are.

  • The Conduit
  • Little King's Story
  • Muramasa
  • MadWorld
  • No More Heroes

oh, and I better not forget the test game. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles.

But we better not list Zelda, Metroid, or Mario as core games, because the fact they are made by Nintendo automatically nulls out that people bought them because they want core games. Monster Hunter 3 doesn't count because it is the best selling console version, but not as popular as the portable version. DQIX won't count for another stupid reason too, but we'll have to wait to find out what that is.

Also, maybe the userbase is big enough, that some people want Just Dance 2, while others want a on time and equal quality (with exception of graphics) version of Call of Duty. Just dance sold 1.5m so far. So ~2% of the userbase. That 2% does not represent what 100% of Wii owners want. Call of Duty: Gimped at War sold 1.5m, which also represents 2% of the userbase. So why did Activision decide to delay Modern Warfare Reflex and not release Modern Warfare 2?

I'm still waiting for someone to list the Assassin's Creeds, GTAs, Final Fantasy games that have flopped on the Wii. But hey, if you want to know where the Bionic Commando's are for the Wii, well, that flopped on the HD systems too.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Why the hell does shovelware sell so well on the Wii? For Fuck Sakes Wii owners go buy Muramasa.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Just Dance was advertised.  Big difference.

That doesnt change the fact that Just Dance is a quick, easy profit.

I was going to respond to this, but then Nordlead just ended the argument.

Extremely dense higher ups seeing games that the average otaku would love (i say lets use this instead of "hardcore gamer") not selling when they are released out the back door with no advertising whatsoever and games such as Just Dance (Games For Anyone) that are marketed on tv and during some of the most watched shows in the uk actually selling and somehow thinking that the advertising blitz had nothing to do with the games sales.

These same higher ups will then issue a press release about how the otaku games they've made have not sold to expectations and that either Nintendo is eating up all of the potential sales of a title or that there is not an audience for these otaku games ad they are now moving onto PS3/Xbox360 development where they develop a mediocre game but give it a decent sized ad campaign and then proclaim that it must be  the fact that it is on the other consoles taht it sold to or above expectations.

Reading that through i do sound jaded don't I?

I think one part of the reason Just Dance sold that people think is dumb, but actually researched, is the fact that it has a red boxart. People are mentally inclined somehow to be more interested in purchasing 'red' things. Guess which other game has a red boxart.......

"Red is another exciting warm color. Red can cause the heart rate and breathing to quicken and can over-stimulate too if it overwhelms a website. You should use the warm colors as accent colors because of the strength of their visual effect."

Oh yeah, and it started out at $30....with 3 months of straight advertising.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Just dance is going to sell close to 4 million when it's done selling.

I agree with you that the big games like GTA, FF, COD are not on the Wii, but there is no need to, this is a business, why should I spend 10 million to make a port Assassin's Creed when I can spend less than half, make a party game and sell more. Just dance will make more for Ubisoft from the Wii  than any of these games you mentioned.

That's the Wii, that's the image Nintendo has created for it. No matter what, it will be seen and supported as the party game platform plus Nintendo games.
