How would bluray stop piracy when its security system was hacked at release?

If anything it would be less secure considering more people will have the blue ray burners in a few years (with some of those having the programs and know how to burn a game).  Lots of people know how to mod systems and load them full of games.  So as long as there is internet connection to system then the system will always be vulnerable.  As for a decent amount of population that doesn't have internet they might buy a pirated disc off the streets.  I am sure there were pirated GCN disc but that was probably a little hard to do considering the disc size/format.  It is probably easier to make a Wii pirated copy than GCN.  However, people that want pirated games will mainly just do it from the internet...

One reason being you would need a Blu-ray burner on your computer which most people do not have.

no you dont need a burner to watch it, you can watch the rip on your computer and there are several players that have a harddrive that can play it too with out the need for a burner.

you don't WATCH video games on your computer.

eventuallu you will be able to play them of a harddrive same basic method i thought you would get that with a little thought. The point is the security measure has been broken on bluerays as soon as the PS3 backup launcher is done or any other system using blurays is hacked then you will be able to run games from either disc or HD.

Exclusive: Wii 2 specs leaked, Blu-ray enabled and 1080p support?

We've just received some exclusive news and specs on the Wii 2 via Logic-Sunrise.com) (though a Nintendo of France marketing employee). The leaked specs denote the Wii 2 will get a Blu-ray drive (mainly to stop piracy), but will also support 1080P for games as well as movies. The new system is due out during the third quarter of next year and there will be the option to trade in old Wii's!

More details below (translated from French):

This is a nice exclusive we have here at MaxConsole courtesy of Artik from www.Logic-sunrise.com on the Wii 2. The actual information is said to have been leaked from an internal source of the marketing Nintendo France Service. Unlucky for them, this kind of information should stay internal, but that's not our philosophy.

- The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.
- 1080P and lower resolutions will be supported, for blu-ray movies and games.
- The release date is scheduled for third quarter of 2010.
- The release will be worldwide and on the same day for all countries.
- A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.

Moreover, Nintendo wants to make a worlwide annoucement, only one month before release date. Huge publicity and Viral Marketing will be utilized to create the Buzz. Official pictures are not yet available, and more specs will be released in due course.

Why do we believe it at all ?

* Artik from Logic-Sunrise.com has regularly provided news to MaxConsole and has a lot of 'insider' contacts.

* Nintendo has suggested that it's time they embraced high definition technology for the Wii and Blu-ray has firmly established itself. So a Wii 2 with Blu-ray support does make sense.

What do you guys think?

I reckon the BS that breaks the rumour is the supposed trade in scheme, why would any company do this, Nintendo's business is to make money, why would they take a hit with this stupid trade in scheme like this, unless of course it's a gamestop thing, but that it's self has nothing todo with Nintendo.

As for the rest of the specs, it's reasonable to expect that seeing as it'll be the standard next gen, and the hardware will be cheap enough.

ancient news buddy.

That's another great reason why bluray and antipiracy don't belong in the same setance unless that sentance is "bluray antipiracy efforts were all hacked on day one".

Yeah, Nintendo has always tried to steer clear of the main type of media formats. They used a basic DVD for Wii and look what happened. Pirated to all hell. Next gen machine will be high capacity discs, but won't be bluray. Nintendo has never cared for the royalties involded with adding video playback to their systems.

So itll be like the PS3 w/ Arc controls just wit Nintendo games pretty much? Not stating anybody copying but more like sharing.

@OP

The next time you post a hot new article, look at the article date first.

2009-10-28 fail.

Oh sweet! We can trade in our old Wii's toward the new one? Thats awesome!!

Thats exactly what Nintendo has done ever since they launched the NES.

And more-so, we get a new Blu Ray enabled Wii THIS YEAR??? No freakin' way. Good thing there are NO games WHATSOEVER in the pipeline for the Wii.

/sarcasm.

Seriously, who writes articles like that on purpose to dis-allude fanboys

Its BS on the BluRay tech. BluRay has already been surpassed by Panasonic as far as data storage goes.
