Gamerace said: I agree somewhat. On Wii style means more than realism. I think HD consoles actually suffer a bit because a lot of developers just go for realism and many games lack a style of their own. Nor is one appreciated often. A lot of people didn't care for the look of PoP but I thought it was great. We have seen style trump realism already on Wii. Shaun White crushed Shake It on Wii despite they came out about the same time and offer similar experiences. Shaun White used style, Shake It tried to be realistic and looked worse for it. Stylish Grand Slam outsold realistic Virtua Tennis. On the flipside, going with a more cartoony look seemed to hurt Madden sales. Besides, Nintendo doesn't even go for realism very often and it's their system so why should anyone else? Don't get me wrong, I love the graphics in Silent Hill:SM, quite impressive (for Wii) but that didn't sell either and developers have to sell so they should do with what sells. |
i agree with this, though "stylize" is often confused by developers, by dumbing down the game for the casual audience.

I would buy that!
The industry is just shooting itself in the foot by constantly refering to how great the HD graphics are in their games.
Soon people will see sub par graphics and not even give the gameplay a chance.
And gameplay is what it's all about.
"The industry is just shooting itself in the foot by constantly refering to how great the HD graphics are in their games."
It's actually the increased cost that is the shooting, not people just not giving the gameplay a chance. Nintendo has shown people do care about the gameplay, and it was the increased need for graphics over gameplay that drove them away.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
Edit ; Double post =[ . OT; I agree to a certain extent. Wii games generally look better if realism is ignored (Read cartoony)
But that defeats the purpose of graphics in video games. The purpose is to convey the atmosphere, setting, and central themes of a game in visual format. If you create the graphical style separate from that of the original purpose, then you just have a game that feels misplaced... which is the case for a lot of Wii games. It's funny how Wii is supposed to be the system where you can expand your creativity and ideas, yet developers seem to be trying to do the exact opposite in limiting themselves.
I disaagree, the faults of counduit were glitches, and realistic games look good
