It's actually the increased cost that is the shooting, not people just not giving the gameplay a chance. Nintendo has shown people do care about the gameplay, and it was the increased need for graphics over gameplay that drove them away.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
