"Metal Gear Solid" or "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell"?

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 183 73.49%

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction 66 26.51%

Total:249

Splinter Cell for me, but then MGS4 is the only one I've played of the series so I couldn't properly appreciate the story. That's not to say I disliked MGS, in fact if they did a blu-ray release of the mgs collection I would probably rent and play it, but I still prefer the gameplay of Splinter Cell.

I haven't played any other splinter cell series other than double agent and that too was the downgraded PS3 version. I couldn't enjoy the game that much. MGS4 was an awesome experience and didn't either play any other series before that. So probably if there is a PC version on SC:C i can get to play and pass my verdict. Till then MGS4 rulz for me.

Uncharted

Anyone that says MGS4 lacks stealth or something like that is fucking biased. They have clearly not passed MGS4 and achieved the Big Boss rank. ITS IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Currently playing

MLB 09: The Show(PS3)

as a game MGS

as a Stealth game Splinter Cell

On Solid Normal, I could run-n-gun through almost the entire second half of MGS4. In fact, I did that through MORE than half the game. It was ridiculously easy. Stealth games should not allow for blitzing a base with nearly unlimited ammo as MGS4 did most of the time. The adding of what's-his-face (the weapons dealer) absolutely KILLED the stealth elements of the game. I was fucking loaded 90% of the time and could buy anything I wanted... if I ever ran out of ammo, which I NEVER DID.

That's not much of a "stealth" game.

No way in hell is that even remotely possible in most Splinter Cell games. You wouldn't make it 20 feet before triggering an alarm, getting mauled by four enemies, or having to re-start the mission for one reason or another.

Thief! But Splinter Cell for better movement and for me more interesting options, but MGS is great for the wacky plots and endearing maddens of it all. MGS does have the cooler title, too. But I'm going to pick SC as I just prefer the controls/approach more.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

If Thief was on option, that'd be my choice as my favorite "stealth" game.

I forgot another reason I'll always choose Metal Gear is because it is a root of Stealth games. The only stealth game I can think of that came before it is Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I tend to shrug off nostalgia for franchises. Doom II was great and is one of my favorite shooter experiences of all time but that won't stop me from calling Doom III a complete piece of shit, which it was.

Metal Gear may have been one of the first stealth games (and a nearly impossible one at that) but since MGS, the franchise has wavered quite a bit while games like Thief and Splinter Cell offered superior gameplay (though without the sometimes endearing Kojima quirks).

Oh I understand that. Also, in case I didn't make it clear, I do think Splinter Cell has the superior gameplay since you HAVE to make use of your equipment where as in Metal Gear (especially MGS4) the gadgets you get are gimmicky for the most part. But it's the presentation, story, and Kojima's hilarious and unique wackyness that I've come to truly appreciate. Not a single one of Kojima's games to this day, IMO, is truly lacking, compared to Doom III.

I mean, hell, I haven't really played many online games that encourage as much teamwork as MGO (not to mention it's also quite unique and works well at the same time). It's just a shame that with MGO2 Konami's support is complete shit. Wasn't sufficiently tested.
