Well I started wondering...how does it benefit microsoft is use IE and how does it benefit Mozilla if I use firefox, and google chrome etc.

Search engines i understand but browsers themselves? I don't know...

How do they earn profit or whats the benefit of using it?

the default search engine in the browser makes them some money, google or yahoo would pay a lot of money to be the default search engine for firefox.

Google pay for being the default search engine in Firefox, so both Firefox and Google benefit from that.

Chrome also allows Google to collect more information about the user to my understanding, and of course, Google doesn't have to pay to be the default search engine.

I don't know about IE though (or what the case is for any other browser).
