GTA IV HAS THOUSANDS!

what a stupid comment.

AI !!

not random strolling characters.

why do you have to come in every ms thread with a negative sideswipe.... do you even have a 360?  why does it even interest you?

Because he's a kid.

GTA IV never has a Thousand A.I on screen at once. Pehaps 30-50 and even then they're pretty stupid and only feature basic instructions. Walk, Run Away, and sometimes fight back.

Are you sure that you can have the same thing without the Elite mode? Anyway, I will believe on you and I will try to find the option later.

woah woah woah, let me get this straight,

you saying halo 3 has better AI than killzone 2?

This question pops up more in a conversation than "Religion or Evolution"?

lol

OT- Guys lets just say if Reach did have more/better AI than Killzone 2, you have to remember that Killzone 2 came out almost 2 years earlier.

It's also said a weapon has more polygons than a whole marine in Halo 3.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Good grief people, what does Killzone 2 have to do this thread at all? *sigh*

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

wooo since we are on topic of AI, I got some cool stuff!

The topic is AI in Halo Reach in a forum dedicated to Xbox 360.  How did you even think it was on topic to spam PC videos in it?  Seriously you've been here for awhile now and should know better.

I agree, we all know PC can handle way more AI streams then consoles. Videos were cool though.

Still, I don't see 200 individual AI steams. I could see pre-done battle scenes in a very far off distance where scripted AI destroy each other.

essentially all AIs are scripts, the difference is how dynamic they can be, if you ask me, I think that a single core of a xenos or a properly programmed SPU can do AIs just as flexible, I think it's more on the devs part on having to gimp the AI for console games due to controls and other display issues.

I think its more how you want a scene or individually coded AI. Do we want a cutscene? Dynasty Warriors AI? or good AI? Good AI takes a good amount of resources. Dynasty Warriors takes virtually zero resources since there is only like 3 commands in their scripts copy and pasted a billion times over. Cutscenes, being coded to run without any interaction, other than possibly skipping it, takes all resources, but allows for a ton of AI streams.

I don't know if something at Dynasty Warrior level should even be considered AI lol, I guess you can call it a web AI but much simpler compared to insect colonies. Something like 1500+ Dynamic AIs that makes sense would be harder on consoles but I think a few hundred is still possible giving enough focus, I just don't think consoles have the actual display power for good graphic for things on screen at once since they are always bottle necked by memory and display power rather than calculation power since Power PC cores and SPUs are efficient enough as they are for something like that. If they sacrifice some graphics, they can prolly pull it off on 360, and it'd be easier on the PS3 to pull something like that off for obvious reasons.

We are talking about 200 SMART enemies at once

Btw, how you know those 200 plus are 'smart'. I know logical AI progamming is easier on X360 than on PS3 and theres something you can do with X360 and can't do with PS3 when it comes to AI thanks to homogeneous hardwares advantages.

And about killzone 2 AI. Its not the dumbest there is, but its not technically good either. It can pose a challenge and look pretty smart in some enviroments, but I don't think it would handle places that haven't been predefined for it.

(However posing a challenge != good AI , especially when it comes to FPS. You can easily do AI that gets headshots all the time whenever they see player and that wouldn't be good or smart AI.)
