Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dragon Age DLC

So I have been really into Dragon Age lately trying to get all the trophies for the platinum, then I decide what the hell I might as well spend a few bucks for the Warden's Keep DLC to get the two extra trophies for 100%.

This is a pretty big deal for me since I never buy DLC, so I head over to the DLC menu and low and behold the DLC is $7! Jeez that is bull lol, I'd expect like $5 but $7!. I'd probably have to spend $10 to add to my PSN account just to buy it in the first place.

Then theres the Stone Prisoner DLC, I already have that but $15! They are trying to get people to buy the game new, but $15!

Yea, it's pricey. For any other game I probably wouldn't have gotten it yet. But I'm hooked on DragonAge and need everything I can get. Where is my damn "Return to Ostragar" DLC!

It's EA's illogically named "Project $10" which is responsible for the $15 stone prisoner, the other one is just typical DLC ripping off, you can buy full PSN games for that price!!!!

Anyway, EA's new idea is to give people free stuff to download if they buy new, like the ME 2 Cerberus Network, where you get an extra character (and more in the future) for buying new, and you can get entry to this by $15 otherwise. They plan to stick this in every game this year I think. {I dunno if that will include sports franchises, as I doubt there is much of a problem with people buying them second hand}

The DLC is optional content and you can get through the game without ever needing the content provided via the DLC. I like this scheme much better than SOCOM's $20 to play online which I believe is a RIP OFF.

Isn't that only if you buy the game 2nd hand? So it is not a rip off, it just instead of paying gamestop to maintain the servers, as they don't, you are going to give the people that made the game the money

Which is exactly what EA is doing but with OPTIONAL content.

Perceived value of anything you buy is based on what you can get when you sell it. So if I buy a game for $59.99 I am already thinking I can sell it for $49.99 later so it is only costing me $10.00. If I can not sell it for $49.99 later since for anyone to go online they need to pay an additional $20) the value of the game (sold as used) goes down further and further and the amount I perceive as paying for that content goes up.

But you can understand it for a PSP game, and they don't really want you supporting the used game market anyway

I agree that they don't want you to support the sued game market but my argument is that they can charge $60 for a game simply because the used game market exists.

Are you suggesting it isn't worth it for a $60 game? Just going by UK prices, a DVD will cost you around £10 and game will cost you £40 and are you suggesting that a game won't give you 4x as much entertainment as film?

:) To each his own. The amount of enjoyment is not directly proportional to the amount of money you are going to put into something. I was talking about perceived value.

The same game that is currently being sold for $59.99 can be had for $30 or less sometime later. The amount of play you are going to get is the same. The only difference is now vs later.

I believe used games' sales are good for the game companies. They should not try to cannibalize it. A unique DLC free with new game approach by EA seems a much better idea than blocking a required feature completely.
