But with the big screen being a touch screen + having tilt/motion control.

Sorry but that design has major flaws. a portable device like that would be a problem to carry in any efficient way and the ergonomic features are severly lacking. This just shows that you should never listen to the customer because they don't know what they want, you need to show them what is it that they want.

I used to think that portability and ergonomy matters, at least it matters to me, thats why I enjoy the Go. But with the DS success, it doesnt seem like portability and ergonomy is a turn off for most person.

However the DS has the caveat that you have a touchscreen and you don't have use your 2 hands to hold it with all games, just one, The games that really demand you to use the face buttons and dpad are a killer on my hands causing major cramping so I just avoid them or play them for 10-15 minutes and that's it. If you want to be a successful hardware iteration you need to improve not only on your own flaws but the flaws of your competition, the fact that the DS has ergonomy problems doesn't mean that it was one of the factors that made it a success, It means that the DS was a success in spite of that hinderance. If I want to take over their market I must create a product that is better in every posible way while still mantaining a competitive price point in relation to my competitors.
