I'll LOL so hard if sony sneaks in and buys them :P

LOL,  the chances are probably better of Epic buying Sony someday considering how much Sony is shrinking in market share in almost every area it competes in.

That would actually be a valid joke if Sony hasn't been gaining marketshare from Microsoft.

They're actually losing video game marketshare as a whole.  Check out the revenue drop they experienced in 2009 because of the collapse of PS2 sales and the start of the collapse of PSP sales in the West.

Ah, yes, yes, I totally forgot about the PS2 and PSP declining sales. My mistake.

A lot of people mention the Bioware-deal here. Do you know how expensive Bioware was? EA paid $700,000,000.00 for Bioware. So MS would need to pay more than that to get Bioware. Unless EA decides to bit even more again.

I lilke Bioware, but there is NO way their exclusive support is worth 750 million USD. MS got Mass Effect as an exclusive franchise anyway. So far, MS would have paid 750 million USD for an exclusive Dragon Age for this generation. Think about it.

Here are the Biowares games for this gen:

Mass Effect 2007
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood 2008
Mass Effect Galaxy 2009
Dragon Age: Origins 2009
Mass Effect 2 2010 January 26, 2010 [9]

Do you think EA broke even with Bioware yet? No way.

Other than that, I would like to see MS buying Epic. To own the Gears of War franchise and the engine would be awesome. But the price has to be fair.

The relationship between epic and MS is outstanding. CliffyB was on stage at every Xbox E3 media briefing since 2006.

You forget that Pandemic was also included in the purchase of Bioware. So the 750 million dollars would have been for both of them and not just Bioware

If Sony was smart, they would find the financing to pick up Epic, and partner Epic with their hardware division. Ie: Have the best engines, tools and middleware available pre-launch for the PS4 to guarantee that the PS4 isnt a repeat of PS3.

Hrmm....Sony and a PC company? nahhhh. Microsoft has much better relationships with them.

Epic isnt a PC company. They are a middleware/hardware support company. The hardware they support, happens to include most major PC hardware, but they are not a "PC company".  Engines, design tools, programming support, technical integration & etc for multiple platforms... that is what Epic does. Which is also exactly what Sony failed to provide pre PS3 launch, and along with poor pricepoint, is why PS3 suffered for so long.

Oh, and Epic occasionally builds a game based on their tech , partly for game profits but mostly to showcase.

EDIT: @papflesje : Naughty dog is not set up to provide tools or support to 3rd parties. They are skilled with certain aspect of coding to be sure, but they are primarily a game maker. Epics buisiness model is one of licensing to 3rd parties and providing not just tools but support for those tools.

Somethng people forget, is PS1 succes was largely prediated on Sony wisely aquiring European British Publisher Psygnosis , which was responsivle for some of the best Amiga games, and also had some really good development tools that were converted for use with the PS1 and shared with all, significantly lowering early dev costs and increasing quality. Sony needs to remember these things.

let's be politically correct here :)

If Microsoft buys epic. PC gamers will lose out on UT. Those are some amazing games. I doubt Microsoft would let epic make them for PC and xbox.

Um no. Microsoft publishes PC games as well. Sony would opt to make UT exclusive more if they purchased it more than Microsoft, but either way the game would be an exclusive asset to either, so I don't know what you demonize microsoft so when they are obviously the natural choice.

If Microsoft bought Epic, I would never buy an Unreal based product again.

And why is that?

I fINALLY listen to the whole panel and it was very interesting indeed. It certianly made me want to buy Supreme Commander 2 to support Gas-Powdered Games, but it also made me wonder if these guys will be able to survive...heck...I don't think Epic is in ANY danger of failing...Gears of War is a franchise that is going to be money-in-the-bank for years to come, in addition to all their licensing deals, and the same thing goes for Valve, both os whom are making serious $$$. Notice that they sleath dilvulge how much the publisher gets...25%, which most knowledgable people on this board already knew (BTW, you'll can do the math on what M$ gived up to EA, when they returned the publishing rights to ME trilogy). For PC and 360 owners, check out SC 2 and support Gas Powdered Games, and they are launching a new RTS on all three platforms.

Look at gears of war, Halo, fable?(I'm not sure if fable 2 got a PC version) All WERE on the PC. And now aren't. So I rest my case.

Not to nitpick but wasn't it only $680 million. Like that matters. BW may never earn that back but the bleeding at EA seems to be slowing . DLC for DA and ME will add to the rev. stream and with the engines in place sequels should be faster and cheaper. BW/EA need really solid nos. for TOR and dig. dl. from PC.

I still don't think M$ want to run E & D div. in the red again. Gears 3 will outsell 2 or 3 of BW's best IPs so the price could equal profits from 2 good qtrs.
