Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Remedy “Betting The Farm" on Alan wake

yeah i think they are looking at a 2+ million in sales. Is that enough to save the farm? I can't tell...

It's been about 5 years with 40 devs, so I would guess a budget of around $25m. That is going by Naughty Dog's 90 people working for 2 years to make $20m game in Uncharted 2, so that should be enough to make back the budget

Yeah they should be fine at 2 million. Sounds like Remedy kept a lot of the elements for this game in house. Their own engine is key. I think they will cover their costs and then some at 2 million sold. Obviously it all depends on the publisher deal they have with MS.

Well, with 2m sold, maybe $50m brought in, there should be enough to go around for everyone

if it had stayed on pc also could have given them a good bump

Alan Wake developer Remedy has revealed the success of the game is crucial to the survival of the company.

In an interview with IncGamers during a studio tour in Finland, Remedy’s Matias Myllyrinne stressed just how important the upcoming psychological thriller is to the company.

"To be honest, we're very much betting the farm on this game," he said.

"We've created it since 2005, and it is kind of like landing on a new continent and bringing the ships - 'Guys, you'd better make do on this continent. Survive.'"

"So Alan Wake is something that we've poured our hearts and souls into."

With the title first announced at E3 in 2005, it's been a bit of a slow starter with Remedy keeping very quiet about the game until now.  With a dev team of just over 40 people, it's no surprise the game hasn't surfaced sooner, but has it been left too late?

Alan Wake is due for release on Xbox 360 only on 21 May. Stay tuned for our preview, due later today and be sure to check out the full interview here

Well i hope it sells well. Remedy is a good developer and it would be a shame to see them close their doors.

they should of played it safe and called the game "alan of duty: wake of warfare 3"

"Mommy I want that new FPS game! It is finally out........"

...................................

Mommy this game SUCKS!

I hope they are content with 2.1 million copies, because that is honestly the most I see them getting.

I really think it will only sell maybe 1.36m.
That 5 year creation cycle is also ridiculous. At least it only involved 40 people.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

ouch, it still feel like a niche game.
guys buy it, you won't heard much from remedy in the future.

I'll buy it! I guess that means no Heavy Rain for me.

Then the Heavy Rain guys pipe up on the same topic, so no Just Cause 2 for me.

Then the Just Cause people pipe up so that means no Crackdown 2 for me

Etc.
