Your PC estimate was much better tha Foamer's lol but I doubt even 600k copies were sold for PC. More like 300k, maybe 400.

Based on what? That would mean there are 600-700,000 copies sitting on shop shelves and in warehouses.

If we're just making figures up, then how about-

PS3 and 360 sold = 2.02 million (figures from here)

PS3 and 360 copies remaining = 0.26 million (if we're considering that 130,000 copies for each platform isn't an excessive amount to be unsold)

PC copies remaining on shelves = 0.05 million (given that PC retail is fairly minimal)

Total = 2.33 million, leaving PC sales at around 670,000.

Your thinking wrong. You simply can't derive the PC sales like that. It's simply impossible for the PC version of this type of game to outsell any console version.

So either you got many copies sitting on shelves - 6-700 K in total (let's say 300K for X360, 200K for PS3 and 100K for PC).

Or the 3 million number is rounded up from 2.8 million, so in actual there's only 500K on shelves.

Foamer is being conservative in my opinion, and you are just being bias.

NO WAY that there's 500k sitting on shelves when only 120k copies of Borderlands PS360 were sold in the last 4 weeks. That is BAD business.

I think the PC version is over 800k by now, and should eventually outsell the the Xbox 360 version.

Dude, it doesn't matter how many copies were sold in the last couple of weeks because that doesn't reflect how many copies are on the shelves in any way.

You remember the 4.7 million shipment of Fallout 3 announced only one week after release in early November 2008? 4.7 million was the initial shipment! It's common practice to have absolutely huge amounts of copies on the shelves for months.

If 3 million copies of Borderlands were shipped there could still be almost 1 million copies on shelves, just like in the case of Fallout 3 at the same point in time in Feb 2009.

There's 0 chance that Borderlands on PC already ouysold the PS3 version.

More evidence that there's lots of Borderlands copies on shelves:

It's already down at half price and very close to be in the bargain bins.

Here in Sweden all retailers sell the PC version for 20-25 Euro on average (new PC games are 45-50 Euro).
PS3 version is $30 Euro on average (new games are 60 Euro on average).
X350 version sells for 35 Euro on average.

Borderlands on Steam, $50.

400,000 on shelves though? Seems a bit excessive.

for 3 versions ?

that's about 130k each. I don't think that is excessive.

It is excessive when at this stage almost all sales of the game on consoles is already made, while on PC it is still going to sell alot considering the nature of PC games.

Also, there isn't excess when it comes to digital sales, which most of PC Borderlands' sales on PC should be. My guess if PC should be atleast 800k, which tells me it has great chance of outselling the Xbox 360 version.

I doubt it will sell more than 2 million copies on the PC lol

That's about as much as Battlefield 2 sold in its lifetime....

According to Dice, Battlefield 2 sold 2.25M in it's first year on the PC.  (June 2005-June 2006) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2

I assume it sold a few more copies in the next 3.5 years.

Doesn't prove anything since Steam is a rip-off. It's their policy to keep nearly all games at regular price for a lot longer than retail (expect when they have their sales, but that's something different).

Also, your just strengthening my case since Steam, unlike retail, actually don't have any physical game copies that they need to get rid of.

Is it enough to break even considering the 3 platforms development costs?

3 million seems big, but those numbers divided by platform don't look quite good.

I think only the 360 version was a little profitable maybe

They develop 1 game, porting is quite cheap, and 3m is very likely to be a good return

i'm still waitin for a price drop to pick the game up

Using the figures off here it breaks down as-

360- 1.48 million

PS3- 0.54 million

PC- ~1 million

more like:

360 - 1.48m

PS3 - 0.54m

PC   ~ 0.6m

EDIT:

Just saw this news and our numbers back then were around:

360 - 1.1m

PS3 - 0.4m

so my estimated PC sales are pretty much in line with the real sales.

Your PC estimate was much better tha Foamer's lol but I doubt even 600k copies were sold for PC. More like 300k, maybe 400.

Its higher than 300-400k for PC. Borderlands has sold ~125k on Steam alone.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Well, don't they say that almost half of PC sales are digital downloads? And pretty much all of that comes from Steam, so that number doesn't contradict my estimation at all.

But how do you know it sold 125K on Steam?
