MikeB is on a crusade in this thread I see...

Not really, like I said, I think Alan Wake will be a fine game.

I do dislike it that fans try to put this game forward as beating a game like Uncharted 2 in the graphics department. Often when someone gives credit to Uncharted 2, a fan comes along claiming it's not that great and Alan Wake will be superior.

I don't see hundreds of light sources in Alan Wake. Killzone 2 does an amazing job highlighting it's complex character models with high quality assets. For example when shooting someone down standing next to you in the dark.

Just look at the shadows. They look sooooo much better in Alan Wake. Alan Wake is build from the ground up with the "Light" as weapon. It will set the new standard for lighting in games.

We just got a glimps of the amazing scenery in Alan Wake, there is so much more to see. And its not just about which game has the best HDR. Its about the complete package.

but in the complete technical package Alan Wake will not win either

this is not game that has been built to be a technical "showcase"
In general, lenghty developpement = old engine = lower probability to be technically the best at the release

this is a game that has been built to have an "amazing" atmoshpere

I would prefer people to defend Alan Wake as a GOTY contender (atmoshpere, gameplat or whatever) more than a "technical GOTY"
... because it will not be.

still hoping
http://www.vg247.com/2010/02/19/remedy-explains-decision-to-release-alan-wake-on-xbox-360-only/

As far as a PC version being released in the future was concerned, Häkkinen said that the decision to do so would come from a “sit down” with Microsoft to “see where the title goes”.

Comparisons seem to be the big thing in this thread, so...

Polygon count for Alan Wake -
"10k-20k Triangles"

Uncharted 2: Nathan Drake -
"80k Polygons"
Uncharted 2: Every other character -
"30k Polygons"

Not sure if that matters much in the graphics department, but there is a pretty big difference.

Anyway... This interested me:
"We do have a special game mode (like the Halo guys have etc) which can render shots in a "magazine covershot" resolution with a lot more AA detail than normally expected."

I take it that it's just like say, Forza 3's photomode or something? Where detail is upped?

Only if it lives up to expectations.

I had a XBox 360 in the past, it did not suit my living room (too noisy, big rigid cabling with huge ass transformator, no WiFi, no HDMI) and not as slick as a PS3. The black Elite model would have been a bit less ugly (but to connect HDMI as well as surround audio seem to be a mess). In the end I decided the device and discs are not sturdy enough, customer support at the time sucked as well and I myself nor the few friends I knew with a XBox 360 really wanted to pay for online play and even Gears of War with its tiny battles was lagging (I got one free Gold month with that game).

I also prefer the old interface...

@libellule

that wasa actually at MikeB

but good luck with that....

I really dont understand that mentality when you can pick up a 360 for such a good price now.... you know... for less than the price of a graphics card upgrade.

- I know but I considered I can be placed in a similar category so I answered for him.
(even if I didnt even read 1 of his comment on this thread)

- I do agree, good luck for us :)

- I may buy a 360 for this game but I doubt one game will make me change my point of view about this console and MS in general.
This game was a long awaited PC game and they succeed to put it exclusively on the inferior sku (compared to PC).
I dont even need to mention the amount of BS coming from Remedy to explain their moves ...

- What I know is that alan wake seems to be a VERY good game considering all the praising he is getting from the preview. I thought the arcady action packed bullet timed "light" shooting will kill the thriller atmosphere but it seems it is NOT and that a VERY big GOOD point.

This game could really end up as a GOTY contenders judging from the previews.

change the record mate...   why does every post you make sound like a Sony PR press release?

Sony press releases don't sound like that.

The XBox 360 is a quite capable and cheap games console, but for the above and many other reasons (including the Cell processor, default harddrive, Blu-Ray and first party exclusives, I think more and more core gamers agree with this) I greatly prefer PS3.

I saw the low poly character models back in E3, I never once thought this game was supposed to be a technical power house, don't know why people are going nuts over it. It's all about the atmosphere effects with this game. On a technical level atm on consoles, UC2 is still the most impressive, of course the storage size of blu ray helped out as well, we'll see what happens with future PS3 titles, on the tech front, the 360 has never impressed me even once due to me being a PC gamer, and PS3 hasn't either until UC2 came out.

Why is it that people always think they are right when they use words like "technical level"?
