To have shortages you'd of expected their shipped number to be way higher last financial report.

They sold a massive 6.5 million PS3s to retail last quarter. That's a third more than the PS3's best quarter before that. If they sell a third more in Q4 than their best Q4 so far, they will significantly top their estimation, so shortages aren't surprising if they stay on track with their deliveries. Producing more units would mean they will exceed their forecast for this fiscal year.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Right, but they projected 13 million for the fiscal year and are right on projections. Why would they project 13 million and then only make 12 million?

They may be pulling a fairly major "bait and switch", where they created demand for the console with a price drop and then artificially constrain the availability of the lowest priced model so that the people that are all hyped up for a PS3 spend that extra $50. This could have been done to stem the bleeding from the console. It's actually a good strategy if a bit underhanded.

But who am I kidding, we all know Sony loves their buyers and only ever do anything on the up and up because it quality over profits for them.

France? who cares! lol

ITS A PLAYSTATION!!!!! the brand should have been sold out like wii since launch. 4 YEARS after and it MIGHT be sold out in france???>>>????

= Fail

They are on track to sell more than 13 million, hence shortages aren't a surprise. They will need to order more components and such to meet demand.

And always remember you would need addtitional manufacturing capabilities, too. "Order more components" generally is not an option in mass manufacturing, unles you are ready to pay 50%-100% more for them. For this fiscal year, Sony ordered 13mio units made and 13mio units it is. Early last year, I thought this number to be very, very optimistic given the economic turmoil, but it now seems even 13mio was not quite enough. Now we hear from Sony (UK), Sony (America) and Sony (Whatnot) that shortages will continue for months so it seems next fiscal year's plan is already problematic...

120 go sold out in a lot of retailers, yes (like many country in the world). you live in UK and I can understand that appears strange for you that ps3 is sold out, in your country 360 is the HD system choise, in france this is the reverse. Maybe the stock provided for france are passed temporarily.

Mediamarkt in Basel still has >60 units in the store.. feel free to use the TGV to get one

ok for TGV ! I think these backorders are based on the country where you live. What's the language spoken in Bâle, French or german?

Il me semble que le support hd dominant en suisse est la ps3? non?

No, there are not a lot of 250gb laying around. For the last 3 shipments my area has only recieved 120gb. Every 2 weeks 3 120gb. 250gb have been sold out a lot longer than the 120gb. we just recieved our last shipment wednesday and sold out yesterday.
