Forums - Sony - R&C Sales

As long as R&C sells 250k+ copies then everything should be fine. I doubt Insomniac dropped as much money into this game as Resistance. So all is fine guys, move along!

250,000 might allow Insomniac to break even. Maybe. I highly doubt Insomniac makes a game hoping to break even.

Definitely disappointing, but worse than SMG in Japan? no.

The biggest Nintendo franchise in history bombing on the hottest system in its homeland versus decently big franchise bombing on 3rd place console with software selling problems, which one is more shocking?

Anyway I don't care since both games turned out even better than I expected despite the unrealistic expectations I had for them and ended up the two best games on each of their consoles respectively.

So basically what I'm saying is those who didn't buy either are missing out. They can buy a million Mario Parties and Maddens, I'll be playin' Galaxy and Ratchet :)

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

True, but this R&C cost the most to make, the next PS3 R&C will be cheaper now that the base is done, so there's future sequels to factor in too.

Maybe those poor sales are not that suprising.
I know some ppl won't agree but when you look at R&C design, it's very cute, very childish. It doesn't mean the game IS, but still, I'm pretty convinced that a large part of R&C players are young. And right now, giving the console price, I don't think lots of young players have access to the PS3.
However, given the recent price cut, this will change in time. I think R&C may perform well during Xmas and have better legs than usual games.

I dropped my standards on the PS3 a lot, so to me, the sales seem pretty damn good.

So the NPD October sales for R&C are said to be 74,500 units. This even shocks me and I expected the sales to be low. WTF happened? This is even worse than SMG bombing in Japan, since the USA should be R&C's best market.

I love that he posted this with his signature right below it:

Cherry picking is used metaphorically to indicate the act of pointing at individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position.

Cherry picking would be something like, PS3 software sales are a failure because R&C sold badly.

I'm not using this instance to prove any other position, other than R&C sales seem dismal. Which of course the evidence is showing.

Or that R&C is doomed because it had a bad first week.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

I don't think it's considered cherry picking when 90% of the time that turns out to true.  Which... if a game sells poorly it's first week, it more likely then not is going to bomb.

Wii and PS3 games don't work like 360 games, meaning that they arn't front loaded. All of the High selling PS3 games are high selling because of their legs. Resistance and Motorstorm didn't come out and sell 300K week one. Things just don't work that way; I don't know what made people think that Ratchet would. Right now―if you include Japan, of course―Rathcet is at 200K. For the time it's been out, that's pretty good. Furthermore, we still don't have the numbers for others, so calling it a flop in terms of sales is a bit premature. The game could easily pass the 1-millon-millon-sold mark before years end. One thing is certain, though: Ratchet will sell 400k in the US easily.

ratchet will get bundled, so it's guaranteed to sell lots and lots.

the Wii is an epidemic.

what about Japan? the first R&C sold 500k in Japan, the rest of the ps2 ratchet games all went on to sell at least 220k.

now we got the PS3 version doing 11k first week.
