Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ace Attorney director surprised by series success

The director of the Ace Attorney series has admitted that the success of his DS courtroom series has surprised him.

In fact, Shu Takumi told ONM that he wasn't even expecting the Phoenix Wright games to be released in the West! Responding to a question from ONM forum member hooeylewissukz, Takumi said "The Ace Attorney franchise is a materialised form of my ideals of the mystery genre... I am also a big fan of courtroom drama so I knew the first Ace Attorney would be a good game but...I wasn't expecting it to be this popular - I didn't even dream of a day Phoenix Wright went abroad!"

Wright fans? Can you imagine life without the Phoenix Wright games?!

Our Ace Attorney interview is the first in a series of 'ONM Asks' features in which you - our loyal forum members - ask the questions. The full interview will be online on Friday so make sure you come back at the end of the week to see if your question was answered!

The next ONM Asks interview will be with the team behind Sonic The Hedgehog 4. If you want to ask them a question, go to this forum thread.

The new game in the Ace Attorney series is released on Friday. Here is our Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth review.

I am really glad this series made it out of Japan. How about you?

The script in this series is really second to none......its one of the reason imo that shows just how far the psp is from even touching the ds's greatness.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

It's a great series, but I'm getting the feeling the fans are being milked now. The same attention to detail just wasn't there in the fourth game and I am getting the impression it won't be there in the fifth either.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

The fourth game is awesome....and the fifth game is great so far (still playing it)

I can't really imagine it, no. These games are absolutely fantastic, and thank god they got to be released overseas and are seeing some notable success :)

Well, if you weren't bothered by the massive plot holes in the third and fourth cases of Apollo Justice, our taste in this matter diverges.

Of course I was bothered by them and there were time where I felt I could solve the coses in a much faster rate but you have to take the game for what it is......everyone solves problems differently and its really unreasonable for you to think that capcom can cater to every line of thinking in the world.

*If your talking about plat holes as in the story outside of cases then ignore this post....but if your talking about the story withing the cases then it still stands

It's not about "catering to different lines of thinking". A case is either logically consistent or it's not. If it's not, that really ruins the game for me.
