Nvidia seems to be focussing a lot fo their energies on their mobile market.. all the hot buzz coming out of them recently has been tegra related- alo probably since they wanna avoid getting nay bad PR on Fermi.
Fermi is prolly gonna be DeadOnArrival, like larrabee..
Not good for the rest of us. PC component prices have been rising in the last few months...
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

I like AMD, but I'm not a fanboy. I actually want competition in the GPU market, those 5xxx prices need to come down. Charlie's articles haven't really been accepted by the mainstream until recently, when it turned out everything he's written about Fermi since early last year is correct (well, we'll know for certain next month). |
The 5xxx prices aren't good in the short term but the profit reaped by ATI ought to be good for the longer term as it will allow them to hire more people and invest so that their 6xxx, 7xxx and 8xxx products are equally as good at least relative to Nvidia.
In the desktop space ATI are currently owning but in the mobile space, like laptops they are like gods. They own that important power/watt metric which determines which chips are best for their applications.
And yet they'll still sell thousands upon thousands of them because "THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE PLAYED" and "hurr my ATI Rage had broken drivers back in 1999 I'm never buying a radeon."
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Certainly hope this isn't true seeing as how I, like many others had fairly high expectations for Fermi, even if for no other reason than it being competitive translating into lower 58XX prices from ATI.
Meanwhile, ATI ramps up their prices and drain down our pockets. This is bad, very bad for the market.
I mean, I was wishing the Fermi cards to get out so my desired 5870 would go down on price...
Is nVidia repeating the whole GeForce 5800 incident again? I really hope they don't disappear... who would keep ATi prices low then?

The government would step in to prevent a monopoly.

More likly Intel would step in. I guess you can say Intel is as large as some countries governments... :)
I think i believe this. nvidia is doing what ATI did back with the r600. They're introducing a radical new architecture and it wont live up to its full potential for a couple generations. But im finally excited ATI is BACK ON TOP!!!
Long Live SHIO!
