Forums - Sales - Gamepro posts petty BS on console sales

Here's the link: http://gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=148028

Please take great notice in this part : In its first year, Sony sold 5 million PS3 units compared to Nintendo's 9.3 million Wii units for the same period. By comparison, Microsoft has has sold 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles in two years.

What the hell is this? Somehow only PS3 sales haven't been hurt too much while the xbox suffered a 2 million plus downgrade and the Wii more than 4! And despite all the recent publicity that has gone around Wii and xbox sales. And for the record, GP isn't talking about 2007 sales, it's talking about LTD sales! I am outraged by this, gamepro has been pretty mean to Nintendo, same with xbox, in the past, but this? Yes i am an outraged fanboy.Take it or leave it.

maybe they were confused by the multiple ps3 models, just like everyone else has been

I wonder if getting upset by these little details is the reason you go bald so early. So they got it wrong, send the author a pm and he'll correct the situation, he could have just taken the wrong info...

PSN name: Gazz1979 (feel free to add me, but please put your Vgchartz name in the message!)

Battlefield 2: Gazz1979

Ummm..

It was hardware production and shipments as of June.

That's it - what exactly are you wanting to complain about, other than the fact that you haven't looked at hardware shipments ever?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Philistines, not using the purity of VGchartz in their reports

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

@mrstickball, care to read again both versions and do a little thinking?

You do know what journalist proffesionalism is don't you? Well gamepro lacks it. You don't give old information with fresh news. Hell it's disheartening to see that you would "embrace" giving off false news.

Sure maybe i overreacted, but then again you're not being nice either. Are you?

In fact ,the shipped number for the X360 was for as late as october this year that it was when MS let this number slip .

No one knows exactly what's been sold. VGChartz is definitly off on their numbers as they'll freely admitt. MS mentioned that they had shipped about 11 million units about the time when VGChartz claimed MS had sold 11 million. Thus 9 seems realistic. In regard to the PS3, these numbers have been driven by fanboys on both sides. 360 folks trying to make the number lower and PS3 fanboys trying to make it higher.

@Diomedes
We don't have shipment numbers from Microsoft for the end of October, but for the end of September Microsoft reported them to be above 13M for the 360.

@djroberts
VGchartz never claimed 360 sold 11M when they reported shipping 11M, you must be mistaken with nexgenwars.

The inflated PS3 numbers can be blamed on Sony. They were reporting shipped numbers as anything that left the factory. But when production slowed to nearly nothing, they were forced to change their accounting methods, otherwise it would have shown almost non-existant shipping numbers for the quarter. Of course that change in accounting resulted in a a huge downgrade of their original shipment numbers.
