i think they could, i don't see why it would be impossible

I know you say because of Japan (in the op) but look at the PS2, even if it didn't sell any in Japan it still would have beaten the gamecube and the xbox by many consoles sold

That is true, but I think those games still attract to the core audience the Xbox 360 already has. With the exception of Forza 3, which has wider appeal.

I agree. Almost everyone buying those games also bought Fable, KOTOR, and Morrowind back on original Xbox.

Not soon.
Microsoft has to gain some experience.

Nintendo and Sony are not childs play, microsoft this gen is only in second place not because they are better than Sony, but because Sony totally fucked up this gen.

When third place fails, you are a easy second.

And even with Sony fucking up things, second place is not asured forever since PS3 is gaining momemtum.

They had a huge improvement over last gen and are *currently* beating Sony. If you would have asked last gen that they could ever be in a position other than last, I bet you would have said "no" as well. Never count them out. MS has the money and they listen. They know what they have to do to break through in other countries and I would be surprised if they were not already looking into ways to accomplish that. It will take a while (a long, long while) but I would never say it is "impossible".
