Forums - Gaming Discussion - Leaked Sonic the Hedgehog 4 footage!

I really don't get some of the complaints

"He isn't fast enough"

Well, if you have actually played the old games you should know that they were about action and precise platforming and exploration first and speed second, and that Sonic takes some time to accelerate and won't go top speed unless he's rolling down a slope.

"Sega should do something groundbreaking"

The result of Sega doing something groundbreaking with Sonic was adding lots of characters, transitioning to 3D and fucking up the gameplay, do you want that? It's better to go back to the basics.

"Mega man 9 style is the way to go"

No, new graphics is better than old graphics. The mega man 9 way would only be playing to peoples nostalgia and take away any chance to make new fans that the game has. If Nintendo could do a 'New' Super Mario Bros, then I expect Sega to be fully capable of making a 'New' Sonic.

The things that worries me are that the acceleration seems off and that the animations look slow and that the gravity seems too low. But we don't know what build of the game was shown. It transitioned directly to the level select, so it could be a beta or even an alpha build.

I like the look of this until he jumps. It just looks awkward and just not quite right when he jumps. I'm encouraged that he has slower acceleration, like the older games rather than instant speed like some of the more recent games.

There's a reason I said Sonic deserves the Mega Man treatment. Sega is so out of touch with what Sonic is about, that reverting to the old source code would yield physics and controls closer to the original Genesis games, rather than the goofy looking physics in that video. The level design also looks alien to me, and reusing some assets would help ensure that the level design is true to the older games as well.

Also, another crappy Sonic game confirmed, Dimps is making it.

Dimps made the Sonic Advance games, which are the only true good Sonic games after Sonic Adventure. If all, this confirms that Sonic 4 will actually be awesome.

I'm buying! And I'll probably play some 'Splosion Man (or Mario Wii) to prepare myself for the awesomeness.

Looked like a level straight out of Sonic 1.

I know, when I saw the footage right away, I thought of Green Hills from Sonic 1.

The thing is, that nothing less than a full quality Sonic game with new visuals and great playcontrol and physics should be expected from Sega. Sega is the only company that has given Nintendo a run for it's money and the only company that has been able to compete toe to toe with Nintendo in it's prime (Sony and MS have not). I refuse to believe that Sega has collapsed to the point where they can't even make a good new Sonic game anymore.

What? Dimps? I know that they have a decent track record but come on Sega. Are 2D Sonic not worth being treated as a full blown AAA effort anymore?

I LOVE ICELAND!

The big question is whether or not this is worth $50 for the complete game - downloaded in five parts (or $40 if four parts).
Right now, it seems like an old Sonic game but that cuts both ways -- it is traditional but it does not seem (right now) to bring much new to the table.

I still plan to buy it though -- at least Ep. 1

looks like the first sonic with slightly better graphics.

I wonder if these are fake. The reason being is that Dimps is developing the game and Sonic Team is not involved. Yet the "videos" show Sonic Team.
