Well except that it seems that the article writer doesn't comprehend the pokemon games. Pokemon is not a continuous story. It is not a chapter story. It is not an RPG in the sense of other RPGs. Pokemon games are targeted at new players, seasoned players. By time these players hit the later iterations the games stop being designed for them. That's why Pokemon games don't change. They are not meant to. They are meant to bring new people into the pokemon world

Pokemon is using the Disney tactic. Appeal to young. Trying to be popular during the teens and early twenties, but when they are parents. The parents buy for their kids thus repeating the cycle. This is Pokemon. Anyone assuming anything more from Pokemon other than it's simple enjoyment is just sorta stupid.

I stopped playing Pokemon after Silver. So I played for 2 iterations. I'm done. I know the others after are the game. I know they are not made for me. They are made for my daughter. Who guess what, loves Pokemon.

Except that's still not true. Pokemon is made for kids and for the competitve gamers. The people who bitch about it rarely have a modicum of knowledge of the competitive metagame. Pokemon is incredibly deep.

People asking Pokemon to completely rewrite the formula into some 3D console action game might as well ask for Street Fighter to become a Zelda clone.

the thing it's that they release 2 games next to each other with minor differences,it does feel like cash in, sounds are reused, certain cries of pokemon are from the red/blue/yellow era.

i think pokemon can be 3d mmo type of game, but that would require "effort", it wouldn't be as kid friendly, but certain different that portable version are used too.

The two games are two versions... it's hardly the only game to ever do that. The point of Pokemon for kids is that it's a social game. Two versions are released so kids can trade with their friends to catch them all.

No sounds at all are still used from the red and blue versions. In fact no sounds are even used from GSC. Some are used from RSE, but you try and record a completely unique battle cry for 493 Pokemon on a handheld game. The amount of storage space that would use alone would be ridiculous.

You really shouldn't discuss something you know absolutely nothing about.

but why not trade with the same version? why not release a platinum like-version instead of 2 splits?

I bought almost all of the pokemon handheld games. Am I the only one who has enjoyed pokemon from generation 1 to 4?

You are completely missing the point of the philosophy. The idea of version exclusive Pokemon isn't to get people to buy both versions, it's to force people to be social and trade between the versions to get everything. When I was in late elementary school Pokemon Red and Blue had just released, and the playground was full of kids playing and trading across the games. The games were a social phenomenon and still are because of that mechanic. Pokemon is for people to make friends and interact with their friends, at least at the kid's level.

Yeah... but the Yellow Version didn't have them all....

I don't think any "Yellow" version actually has all the pokemon.

Bingo. The third versions are just as incomplete as the first two in every case.

Yes, Pokemon games are cash-ins. Please, do not be blind enough to deny this. The make millions off of the games. That said, each game does bring some form of "innovation" or something "that the others did not have", but they aren't really big enough to be deemed a "revolution", and that's fine. There doesn't have to be a revolution. But, I, personally would like to see some change big enough to warrant buying a new Pokemon game every 1 - 2 years.

Personally, I'd like to see Game Freak push Pokemon, I would like a console Pokemon, I would buy a Wii for a console Pokemon (and so help.. do not mention PokePark, or I will slap you). I want a serious, adventure/RPG Pokemon for the Wii... I think 14+ years of handheld Pokemon is more than enough reason to bring one to a Nintendo console.

I have played Pokemon since Gen 1, and the last Pokemon I bought was Crystal Version. I played Gen 3 since a friend of mine owned it. I did not play Gen 4, and I will wait before I comment on Gen 5. Before anyone looks at my profile and call me a Sony loyalist, know that I have owned a decent amount of Nintendo consoles (all the way back to the SNES).

Also, while I am ranting, I'd like people to know that Pokemon does not sell because people are "satisfied" with the reoccurring formula. It's just that children keep being born! The kids who get tired of playing Pokemon will be replaced by kids who are just discovering it, so it will always seem fresh to a large number of the audience. Which is great, I think more games should be like this. But they should also think about the large amount of users whom quit playing Pokemon because they get tired of it.

In the end, I just believe Pokemon has not been pushed nearly enough, it has a lot more potential than what we've currently seen. This said, since my last Pokemon game was ... what... 5 years ago, when I buy a DS, I will get Soul Silver.
