Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Mass Effect 2 pissing gamers off

I regularly play my PS3 on a 37" SDTV and many games look great on it. Infact the entire CoD series looks better on that SD Tv then on my HD tv. The SDTV also has much better colours then all but the most expensive HD TV's i see at stores. But many games i find unplayable on that SDTV, GT5, and certain levels of uncharted2 are down right ugly in comparison.

This is silly. HDTVs are crazy cheap, you don't even need a 1080p. The only situation that this is understandable is if the one complaining is a kid, and he can't really go out and buy his own TV. In that case, he should complain to his parents, not to Bioware. Anyone over 18 that's complaining about this, for shame.

That's probably the reason why they changed the text size for Banjo & Kazooie, but not for Dead Rising and Mass Effect 2

Yeah, my guess though, is that there's no easy way for them to do it, it might take a fairly large re-working of the code, or it might be that there's so much text that they don't want to do it. By "they" it could be EA, or it could be Bioware, or it could be both.

Well it should be fairly easy to just make the font bigger, but there could be some major issues with the user interface. I agree with that.

I have 1080p tv and I like mass effect but, this is one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen....

So if you can't afford an HDTV you can't play games? You have to spend 200$ for a console and then you can't play games if don't you pay another 400$ for HDTV just beacuse the developer doesen't make bigger text for SD (a 0 cost task for the developer). No wonder wii sports is the most sold game for this generation if these are the competitors.

The X360 and PS3 are designed for sure to be played on HD but it no one has ever said that they can't be used on standard definition, they are even sold with SD cables...so if you make a game that actually can't be played on SD that's a fraud.

It can be played. You just have to go closer to the screen.

And as being said it would cost some developement time to reconstruct the user interface.

@ nameless pissed gamers:
HD consoles are for HD owners!!!
And consider yourselves lucky that all those pixels stuffed into your puny SDTV's didn't make them explode in your faces!!!

We've been using the same TVs for a few generations now.....I upgraded as soon as I was buying a console that allowed for HD play.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Having difficult to read text doesn't see to be minor flaw in an RPG game to me, and considering how much mony and time it's spent on games development nowadays it's not a very significant cost to change the text size.
