I bought my last desktop from Cyberpower, might be worth trying there. Dell are also decent value, especially if there's a deal on, and you can also get cashback from TopCashBack. Other places that advertise heavily in PC mags are PC Specialist and Wired2Fire.

Oh, and also try Hot UK Deals to see if there are any sales on.

There should be some eastern european folks who would sell you their old Soviet era computers.

Or you could just follow everyone else's advice.

My name is blubeard because rosie has a blue beard. Just not on her chest.

What will you be using the computer for?

Games? Office work? Encoding? Video editing?

Because we need to know what level of CPU, graphics and HDD/SSD performance you need.

Approximate weight and size would help too.

The problem is that 'midrange specs' is too weak to play any recent PC games. And high-end is barely good enough but is hugely expensive and the laptops have poor battery life and are heavy.

Could your need be fulfilled by a small form factor PC? Because that would be a third of the price, actually be able to handle games at your native resolution on medium-high settings, and not have the issues of a high-end laptop.

If you insist on a gaming laptop, then I recommend this chart:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

and this hierarchy list (look under 'Class 1' in the centre column):

Anything in Class 2 is considered Midrange, anything Class 1 high-end. But even those midrange cards are pathetically weak compared to cheap desktop cards.
