Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Capcom will announce a major Wii game in 2010

capcom needs to fucking announce a new onimusha i don't care what platform it will be a day 1 purchase..also capcom could announce megaman legends 3 for wii

Around the Network

Capcom along with other 3rd party companies are not happy about their game sales on Wii.. I doubt a "major" Wii game will be announced..

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Considering that Monster Hunter 3 saved Capcom's ass and that Dark Void is Spectacular HD Flop #2 in less than a year's time, they better start getting happy about their Wii sales and take advantage of the momentum they've created while it's still there.

What other "big game" could Capcom announce, though? Monster Hunter 4? A non-rails RE? Seems to me like they backed themselves in a corner.

And wow at Dark Void numbers. Really sad, and yet we'll be hearing about Zack & Wiki well into 2020.

What Bamboleo said.

I'm not sure big game companies are willing to take a "step back" with franchises honestly.  Once a franchise is on an HD system I think it's going to stay their, with the exception of down ports.

I'm not sure a lot of the people who played RE5, would be willing to play a RE6 now constrained by the Wii... or at least that's how Capcom will see it.

Plus RE5 sales were fine weren't they?

If there was a "big" announcement i'd expect it to be a pretty random one.  New IP stuff.

^True. If RE6 came to Wii it would only be after a port of RE5, and then if it sells really well.

Resident evil isn't as big as it used to be..

I'm not surprised either, they haven't brought anything ground breaking into the franchise.

I think the problem with the Wii and third parties is not about their games bombing, rather than there's no game that had a raging success to persuade them, to show them there's a core market there.

How many huge (many millions - 3/4 million maybe) 3rd party sellers has Wii had? Nearly none (M&S is seen as nearly first party by them)

HD systems on the other hand have had many, like RE5, SFIV, MGS4,etc. Of course they don't see the difference in content provided to the Wii and HD systems. Can you honestly compare DS:Exctraction and Madworld to RE5?!

Apart from the arbitrary exclusion of Nintendo titles, the fact that there are in fact four third party titles that have sold 3mill+ (with more that are looking very likely to reach that) and the fact that 3 million could only be the standard of success on HD platforms due to high costs, by the same token routsounmanman, have there been any third party titles that should have sold 3-4 million but didn't?

I don't think any of the publishers are dumb enough to buy into that. Not EA, not any of the companies that are claiming third party games can't sell on Wii. Industry people who claim Madworld, The Conduit or even the Wii Call of Duty games *ought* to have been bigger aren't fooling themselves, they're lying to us. Say something enough, it becomes the accepted narrative.

The reason I think Capcom, Sega, and perhaps THQ are probably more likely to support the Wii, apart from their own failures on HD consoles, is because they're not the biggest publishers. The larger the publisher the greater interest they have in maintaining the status quo, as they are the ones most capable of sustaining a number of expensive blockbusters every year that soak up most of the revenue in the games industry. In addition to that, they are the ones that have been making the most steps and progress on Wii.

No they won't, they, along with everyone else, know 3rd party games don't sell on Wii.

Seriously though, I think it's too early for this kind of prediction... we'll have to wait and see. But I remain skeptical.

Well I want to be the one saying it before it becomes obvious or conventional wisdom, lol.
