Forums - Microsoft - The Official Halo: Reach Thread

I'm only half way through but the campaign is AMAZING so far! I don't get the naysayers who criticised it's solo missions. My main criticism is it drops frames more frequently then previous Halo games (which were known for the rock solid frame rates) and the characters are a bit flat. Also while the main soundtrack themes are great I'm not hearing as many memorable standard gameplay tunes as the previous Halo games. Also while the graphics are big step up on Halo 3, you can still see it's roots in the Halo 3 engine (i.e a seemingly lack of AA, not true HD). But the sound effects and the general ambience is just brilliant and I swear the gameplay is just engrossing and the A.I is brilliant. Really, really enjoying it so far and I'm told the last half is the best part! Glad to just be playing another (decent) sand boxy type FPS again.

I'm sad this is the last Halo from Bungie as this is a really, really good FPS (so far). I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. I wish I took a day off work now

 i love the extended trailer

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Huh. The game does look like a lot of fun, which is strange, given that I wasn't overly tempted by the previous installments in the series.

There's just something enticing about Reach, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

*END GAME SPOILERS*

Man oh man I loved this game. Near the end, when they go down into the research lab to grab the vital information and Cortana, and the doctor mentions that Cortana chose ME (the main character) to carry the information to the Pillar of autumn, it hit me right then and there that I thought we were Master Chief (a younger version). The whole deal about Cortana choosing him and the fact that you were then headed to the Pillar of Autumn...

But it turns out we weren't. Now that I've beaten the game, I have mixed feelings, but I suppose this was the better way to finish it. On one hand, it would have been so cool to realize you were a younger Master Chief, but on the other hand I realize that would break the gloom feeling of the end of the game.

That wouldn't have made any sense whatsoever......BTW did you see the part after the credits?

Well I'm not the most learned Halo player, so it would have made sense to me. ^_^

Yes I did see that part. It was touching.

Another thing I really liked was the very first scene of the campaign. My spartan has the normal green color to it, so I didn't notice it when I first played, but when my brother and neighbor started going through it, my brother picked a red helm and I noticed the helm in the first scene turned red - it was him! I had no idea the first scene was such blatant forshadowing. =P
