Forums - Sony - PS3 Shortages

So I was just in gamestop and asked about the PS3 since no other place has them in stock anywhere. The guy told me Sony are rebuilding the slim models because original slims had a very high failure rate (ylod), worse than launch models he said. He said Sony were trying to keep it quiet for the past month. You can take it for what it's worth, just thought I'd pass it along.

I think we would have heard about that by now.

Short answer: never trust anything a Gamestop employee tells you.

Gamestop employs some of the dumbest people on Earth and they'll tell you anything acting like they're in the know just because they can.

You lost me after "... gamestop"

Besides the slims run cooler than the original models.

never heard of a slim unit "ylod"ing before...

still of course there are PS3s in stock everywhere (I haven't seen any in my local Saturn and Media Markt either though), because according to VGChartz there are 2 million units around even if there weren't any shipments in january/february

Other awesome news from gamestop:

They rebuilt the Resident Evil Zero Archives edition with the RE4 engine.

Me: "I'd like to preorder Mass Effect 2" Clerk: "360 or PS3?"

You can get the Joker for 360 Batman:AA.

Sony doesn't make games for the PSP anymore.

Those crazy guys!

With all the forum surfing most of us do, if YLoD was such a big problem Im sure it would be all over the place by now.

And with Sony's WONDERFUL track-record on keeping secrets, I doubt it.

Gamestop employees are notoriously moronic, even from my personal experience. And this is the first time I have heard of anyone downtalking the reliability of the slim.

PS3 shortages are slowly clearing up in my area. And lol @ a GameStop guy having info like that.
