Forums - Sales - Wii GH3 outselling PS2 GH3?

how many of that 37 million are replaced ones? about 7 million?

Yeah, well, I did think of that.  There are too many factors to really simplify it that much.  Like how many 360's are replacements?   But I think it's a good idea of PS2 only owners vs. current gen owners.  And again, that would be assuming all current gen owners, are also, or were also PS2 owners.  So 37 million would still be the lowest estimate of PS2 only owners.

You have to consider how many of those PS2 owners actually play their systems anymore...

Just because there's more PS2s sold than all the new systems combined, doesn't mean the new systems aren't more popular.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Oh, I agree.  I just was responding to W29's comment.  I don't think the answer is just because everyone is going to current gen.  I personally think there are still more PS2 owners still playing their system than total current gen owners.

I thought it would go PS2 > X360 > Wii > PS3 since

1) It started on the PS2, and GH2 is on the X360
2) The Wii version costs $90, while the PS2 and X360 versions could cost $50-60

It feels to me that casuals are simply moving on to the Wii60, while the PS2 is starting to get the "too old, time to abandon it" label.

I'm also surprised about Star Wars, since the Wii version doesn't have co-op online. I guess motion control > online.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Well, lots of kids buy Lego Star Wars as well...and lots of kids like the Wii...and probably don't care about online as much.

I'm actually surprised that GH3 isn't doing better on the Wii. Considering the Wii demographic and the fact that PS3 & 360 owners might be holding out for Rock Band, I thought more Wii owners would jump on GH3 since they don't have another music-related game coming any time soon.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I don't think this is that surprising. PS2 owners have already had three Guitar Hero games available for their console, and I imagine the amount of people willing to buy yet another expensive guitar controller is getting smaller with every installment.

The thing that does surprise me is how much more the 360 is selling. You'd expect it to lead for now, but not by as much as it is.

There were reported shortages rocketpig, so if that's the case we'll see the game sell very good the coming week. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

So, after 2 weeks, the Wii version of Guitar Hero III is selling more than the PS2 version?

X360 GH3 233,212 / 1,031,883

Wii GH3 98,121 / 369,174

PS2 GH3 81,980 / 336,576

PS3 GH3 35,608 / 148,648

Sorry for the bad copy/paste.

I'm very surprised...considering the large, pre-existing GH userbase on the PS2. I expected it to sell more like how the 360 version is currently selling.

Any ideas why the PS2 version is underselling? I'm guessing some of them are kind of tired of Guitar Hero...thinking this game wouldn't be too great...or maybe it's the 360 or Wii stealing its thunder...with next-gen graphics and DLC on 360, or online play for both...

Don't flame this thread...just leaving it here for discussion.

There is DLC for the 360 version of Guitar Hero 3 already?  That's weird -- Harmonix said that it would be available for the Wii also and I haven't noticed any yet.
