Forums - Sony Discussion - The last day of PS2....

Despite the PS2 barely having any new games for it, it still manages to sell only a bit less software wise than the PSP.

2009 NA software sales

PSP 20,811,048
PS2 17,059,724

January 2010 NA software sales

PSP 1,216,671
PS2 1,004,748

Whether that's an indication of the PS2's strength or the failure of PSP software though is open to intepretation. :D

The way I see it, it's more of a poor reflection on the PSP than a positive one for the PS2. Sony are between a rock and a hard place with the PSP. On the one hand, the need for a PSP2 is fierce considering how much the PSP is getting killed software wise (dipping close to PS2 levels even). But on the other, Sony can't reasonably release a PSP2 anytime soon at a reasonable price point. When your current system is at the freakin' $250 price point, how can you expect Sony to enter the next gen anytime soon? A PSP2 with truly next gen hardware would cost a bloody fortune.

When will it be the very last day of the PS2?... any one knows?...the reason Im asking cuz Im thinking about buying another PS2 for back up. I already had one a Slim PS2 that works fine. havin a spare is a great idea don't you think?

No need to even worry about it, even when Sony announces the PS2 will be discontinued you will still have probably a year or so after that you can buy them new in stores or online.

what i mean is that even if they discontinue it that retailers will still have it in stock for a long time.  It will never happen that suddenly you cannot find a new PS2, after Sony announces it being discontinued it will be a very slow process taking a year or so.

I have the feeling that once the PS2 is finally put to rest, we will finally see PS2 titles for download in the PSN. The same goes for PSP titles.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I think PS2 will stop only when every PS3 can play PS2 games, or when they release a PS3 with full BC. It may not be selling much, but I don't think Sony will drop such a console yet. 10 years old and still kicking.

Or at least if they started selling PS2 games that were "optimized" for every PS3 through PSN. They are sitting on a gold mine.

That's right, just one "d"

Add me:

They way I got my PS3 was when i got into an argument with my father and he smashed my PS2. Well it was with my mom, and these weren't the results she wanted so she made him by me a new one right away.
Most beneficial fight ever.

This was around August 07'

Honestly, do JRPG makers even realize how hard it is to save the world? That shit is impossible!

Actually it's quite unlikely that another price cut ever happens.  Used prices will drop a little but not new.

In America it will be October 2010. Well that's the last month of the 10 year plan anyways. From there they can shut down the PS2 if they want.
