Despite the PS2 barely having any new games for it, it still manages to sell only a bit less software wise than the PSP.

2009 NA software sales

PSP 20,811,048
PS2 17,059,724

January 2010 NA software sales

PSP 1,216,671
PS2 1,004,748

Whether that's an indication of the PS2's strength or the failure of PSP software though is open to intepretation. :D

The way I see it, it's more of a poor reflection on the PSP than a positive one for the PS2. Sony are between a rock and a hard place with the PSP. On the one hand, the need for a PSP2 is fierce considering how much the PSP is getting killed software wise (dipping close to PS2 levels even). But on the other, Sony can't reasonably release a PSP2 anytime soon at a reasonable price point. When your current system is at the freakin' $250 price point, how can you expect Sony to enter the next gen anytime soon? A PSP2 with truly next gen hardware would cost a bloody fortune.
