The multiplayer is fixed, so Gears 2 has a great multiplayer now (imo)

Cant stand it. No only is it extremely dependant on having a good host but i was a fan of gears 1 multiplayer and the MP in the second is an abomination. Im sorry but the lancer is WAY too overpowered, smoke grenades are too over powered and every other weapon is underpowered esp the shotgun

Yeah, I agree with you. The multiplayer is extremely unbalanced.

Have you read the novels that bridge the gaps between the games, because these will probably give you a good idea of what to expect. I think the Stranded and the Lambent are going to play a bigger part.


why do you think the krill are extinct? o and btw i didnt like the hail lol, if you can survive a bunch of bullets i dont get why you get killed by a little hail

The collectables you find in the game (like the newspaper articles) say the Kryll breeding grounds were destroyed by the Lightmass Bomb and apparently so were the vast majority of the population, so they are pretty much dead.

If your interested in the story and dont buy the books/comics etc check that page out (its a sort of wikipedia for Gears). Fills in the gaps and has the extra info Epic Games has released since Gears 2 which builds it up for Gears 3

What level did you actually get to on the game because it doesn't sound like you played much of the game.  The shotgun was never underpowered except for a very very short period after release, since then its just been a little different than the original.  Gears Of War 1 was pathetically balanced with active snipers and shotguns making every other weapon pointless and the lancer wasn't even worth having equipped.  Your just making excuses for your inability to adapt to the new style of play that was required.  The only overpowered "weapon" in Gears 2 was the melee stun which resulted in people having the attitude of hit b first then shoot.

ur right ive hardly touched it since launch. But without fail every time i do my connection to host is TERRIBLE! Its really not worth the effort to get better especially since theres so many other games out there to play. So i just went back to gears 1 and its pretty damn fun. All the complainers are gone so the community in that game is fantastic. So to each his own.

Makes sense then in that case as through the title updates the gameplay transitioned several times.  I thought the first Gears was so bad mainly because the gameplay actually discouraged anyone using cover unless the opponent had a sniper rifle.  The fact they upped the abilities of lancer and hammerburst meant in the sequel you had to use the cover mechanic in mp and makes for a slightly less rush form of gameplay.  The only way to play Gears 2 really is with a group of 4 friends so you can pretty much guarantee you'll get host 1/3 of the time usually.

Unfortunately there is probably a big decision to be made when  they release Gears 3, which gameplay style they will stick with, either way like yourself I'll give it a go.
