Forums - Sony Discussion - Heavy Rain Reviews Are In

@Kantor and how did you exactly determine that site is "proffesional" ??? are you actually reading and looking at the examples I'm providing? c'mon... What does GAMER STYLE have that VGC don't? how do you explain the "weight" the assign to some NOOB reviews for their meta? how do you explain these sites' reviews are submitted to metacritic for some games but not for others when they actually have these reviews?? W . T. F . ????

Great reviews ! Still a day one buy for me. Looks like another AAA exclusive on the PS3.

I hope Quantic Dream will continue creating such games, we need new genres...

Heavy Rain is getting much, much better reviews than I expected. I'm not surprised by the 9's, but I expected a lot of 5's or 6's too.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

^you call this site proffesional?

LOL. They just made a review on U2 and were accepted on Metacritic? and their dirty score lowered the meta from 97 to 96? c'mon! where the F* do these losers come from? how come VGC isn't on metacritic already ? lol I might as welll make me a couple of "game sites" and start spamming shitty reviews here and there for any games I feel doing it.

Metacritic has higher standards than you might think. They don't accept every review site ever. There are just over 100 reviews for Uncharted 2 on Metacritic, more than any other game. N4G has 381 reviews.

And yes, that site is perfectly professional. He makes perfectly valid points and gives good reasons for giving the game an 8/10. It's an unpopular opinion, but that doesn't mean it's bad. And is there any real difference between a 96 and a 97? Or, for that matter, a 90 and an 89?

As for why VGC isn't on Meta/GR, it's all to do with quantity. We'll probably be up there in the next couple of months.

Between a 96 and 97 no not really.  But between a 90 and 89?  There is a world of difference.  The difference between generally favorable and universal acclaim.  The difference between being starred or not and the difference between being considered AAA or not.  I bet most people who go to metacritic to find a good game consider a 90 and above a "must play".

game revolution just gave it a 75 despite saying that it is a game that "needs to be played". This is the kind of disconnect I'm talking about when I say people may be good reviewers but don't understand the value of the score.

WTF why is a ps3 troll reviewing ps3 games? I'm talking about Jim Surly from Destructard.

Why do u say they're a ps3 troll? Do they review most ps3 games low? I never knew this, what ps3 games have they reviewed poorly in the past?

Well, not really destructoid. Destructoid only sucks by proxy. Jim Sterling is the big culprit here.

First of all, he writes blogs about how 360 is better than ps3 and while they start off as creatively written satire, they quickly devolve as he forgets that he is just joking and starts making actual arguments over superficial crap like why achievements are better than trophies. In that specific article that I will link below, he actually does not start off with any satirical fisticuffs and is 100% serious about the subject. Of course though, in his article about why FF13 will be better on 360 than on ps3, it's actually a good read, and then he starts talking about how trophies require a sync before the game. It's like he forgets that he is supposed to be covering up the fact that he's a fanboy and let's one slip.

"Well, that's not real evidence that he's a troll", you might say.

http://www.destructoid.com/is-heavy-rain-doing-videogames-a-disservice--162102.phtml

He's made up his mind about the game before he even set out to play it. My problem is that not only has this reviewer let preconcieved notions cloud his critique, but d-toid knowingly had this guy review the game despite both his obvious console bias and his article trashing heavy rain before he even plays it.

EDIT: Not to mention that in the comments section he wrote, "I gave it a 7 because I liked it". I'm sorry, but those words do not match up properly. A 7 is low no matter what rubric you're using, and the justifications he uses goes completely against everything everyone else is saying.

Yeah, I actually checked out Desctructoid's website. I looked at the mass effect 2 review and saw it was a given a 100 or a 10/10; and in the comments section someone said good thing it wasn't jim who reviewed this or it would have gotten a 4.5. This kind of angered me bc if one reviewer on a website is a consistently lower scorer, then how is it fair to let him review any games? Because whichever games he reviews will get a lower score than they would if any other reviewer had reviewed them. So the games that he reviews get screwed over, and that's not fair. And this really sucks for Heavy Rain bc it would probably be at a 90 or 91 now rather than an 89. What do u guys thing?

Oh, and regarding his 360 bias/ps3 hate, I did get that feel a little from him. I didn't read very much from destructoid, just a few things, but yeah like i said i got that vibe a little. However, in his defense, he was the one who reviewed Killzone 2 for d-oid and he actually gave it a 9.5/10, and said really positive things about it (one of the best fps experiences he's ever had or something along those lines).

how did it drop from a 91 to an 89 on meta??wtf!

Man, the first review I saw for this game was on my usual french website, www.gamekult.com. I like that site and trust their reviews and they gave it a ... 6/10 (http://www.gamekult.com/tout/jeux/fiches/J000077616_test.html).

They didn't like the genre (to movie-like, QTEs weren't that good, controls, etc...). I was really disappointed as I was looking forward to this game.

But now I see that it is getting a lotta good reviews too and that makes me want to at least give it a try.

However, I wouldn't call the gamekult review bad, or the reviewer a PS3 troll. I guess the game just didn't do it for him and that's fine. That is what meta is for or at least, the need for several sites to review games. Always deversify!
