Forums - Sony - Heavy Rain IGN review

Based on the demo and the recent reviews, Heavy Rain is most deifinitelly shaping up to be one of my favourite games in recent years.
I LOVED Indigo Prophecy and this one seems to be even better ^_^

Not to be "that guy," but what ever happened to Sony fans hating IGN after the whole "Mass Effect 2 is better than Uncharted 2, deal with it fanboys" debacle? I'm glad to see Heavy Rain getting good reviews, but at least stick to your guns.

I cared less about that.... I didn't even read the article because I agreed with the title so no need....

Well, I also agreed with the author. Still, I thought the article was unnecessary flamebait. On the other hand, IGN does good and consistant reviews. A 9.0 from IGN means Heavy Rain is a good game.

nice review

I'm glad to see the game reviewed well, but it's looking less and less like the game for me. I'll still try the demo when it comes out (I tried the ARG one but my code didn't work because I didn't use my EU account and I didn't feel like trying again) but I just hate QTE.

It's not that I hate missing and failing the QTE's and it's pretty cool that you can't fail this game, I just hate QTE's. I'm more worried about clutching my controller and watching for prompts than actually paying attention to the game. Even in Mass Effect 2, I'm constantly looking at the bottom right of the screen to make sure I don't miss my renegade prompts.

I don't get how they rate games now, 2 8.5s and an 8 should make it like 8.6, and yes I did the math. You add the numbers and multiply by 2 and that's your percent.

Well, the QTEs are in clear view, and properly placed, not in a corner anywhere.

And you won't have to immediately press a button when you're in normal gameplay. It will be pretty obvious when you'll have to press something, and then the screen prompt comes up and tells you what to press and how to press it.

9.0 out of 10 is a great score.
Lasting Appeal: "Only 8 hours of gameplay in one playthrough"
Quick return of the game after I have passed it.

Your decisions change the outcome if I'm correct... so you may want more than one playthrough

2010 Hardware Sales Predictions

Wii: 20m- Sales will drop, but not by much.

PS3: 13.5m- It sold 12m in 2009, its only common sense it will sell more this year.

Xbox 360: 11m- It sold 11m in 2008 and 2009, I think it will sell the same.

My Fanboy Speech...

Why do you have to make excuses to defend a product that you purchased, but that's the only connection you have to it, you don't make it, you don't lose or gain money on it. I don't see where all of the defensiveness comes in, there is no reason for you or anybody else to feel obligated to defend it. Now I would understand if one of you were a developer for the product and you slaved over said product only to hear somebody call it stupid or a piece of junk. But none of you developed it, none of you are mature enough to realize that. Choosing a product all comes down to preference, you chose said product because it is best for you. Simple as that!

I don't think it's that serious. Bottomline, this game has shattered many doubts this day and I hope to now see more risks taken within the industry.

I am glad to see a company take risks. I do not see many companies doing so until new IPs sell well thou. Yes, I hope heavy rain sells well. Until then we get to look forward to lots and lots more sequels (CoD 56 anyone?).

i'd buy it even if it had low scores after i played the demo.
its going to be my personal GOTY, and one of my top favourites of all time.

I know, but it makes many of the actual detail ratings seem pointless. If they wanted to give it a 9 no questions asked don't include them. I'm sure it's a good game but I hate how they put games like Bioshock 2 only .1 higher that Heavy Rain and it has an 8 and 2 8.5s.
