Forums - Sales Discussion - Ubisoft Q3 sales broken down by console, territory

Ubisoft has released its Q3 revenue figures, and sent along a lovely chart depicting sales broken down by region and console.

Looks like Europe cornered the market for the company with 48 percent of sales coming from the territory, and PS3 and Xbox 360 tied with title sales.

For the 9 months leading into Q3 FY09/10, which ends March 31, 48 percent of sales came from Europe, 44 percent from North America, and 7 percent from the rest of the globe.

During the same time period, sales designated by console titles saw PS3 sales and Xbox 360 sales tie at 26 percent.

Wii titles accounted for 21 percent of sales for the company, DS 14 percent, PC 6 percent, PSP 4 percent and and PS2 1 percent.

Still, Q3 revenue came in at €495 million, which was down 2.7 percent from the same period last year, with sales dropping 22.4 percent to €661 million compared to €852 million for the three quarters ending December 31, 2008.

Consoles up, handhelds down, PC R.I.P.

How the hell did Wii account for 21% in Q3? The only notable thing I can remember Ubi publishing is Rabbids Go Home?!

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

So Ubisoft got equal amounts of software sold on the two HD consoles? Good going.

Interesting that North Americas share increased from 08 to 09.

Also, EA reported greater sales in NA than EU. Interesting the US based company reported that while the EU based one recorded greater sales in the EU.

Also, handhelds really are a pretty irrelevant market. Even the mega popular DS is a niche software player. I cant even imagine how little the iPhone market profits compared to the consoles. Probably something like 1%.

Also the "rest of world" figures drive home how irrelevant the Japan market is to western publishers. The Japanese dont buy western games, but ironically it probably makes their influence much lesser as a market.

Just noticed that the PS2 market share is actually 0%. R.I.P.

Wow, Ubisoft did far better on the HD consoles than Wii, almost entirely due to Assassin's Creed. They released 9 Wii games, 4 PS3 games and 3 360 games in the 9 month period. The Wii games they released were pretty weak though, generally...

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

PSP is up? Why?

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines (bundles and all) and probably Avatar had some sales...in all likelihood. They also bundled 2 Prince of Persia PSP games together which probably sold alright.

Thats right. Forgot about that game completely.
