Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Shiren The Wanderer Reviews!

Shiren the Wanderer is a game that was practically on no one's "wanted RPG games" list (or at least I don't recall it being so, and it certainly wasn't on mine). Well judging by the reviews I read so far, though not an AAA title, it sounds like maybe it should be on som people's shopping list...

GamersDailyNews - 8.0 - "A lengthy and competent RPG that mixes a classic genre with modern sensibilities, Shiren the Wanderer offers good value for your money." - http://www.gamersdailynews.com/article-2327-Shiren-the-Wanderer-Review-Wii.html

Gamezone - 7.5 - "With its wit and charm, there’s nothing else like Shiren the Wanderer. It’s one-of-a-kind and praiseworthy." (don't ask me how that translates to a 7.5, especially with other phrases in the review like "Passing its own code to live by, Shiren the Wanderer is a joy to play") http://wii.gamezone.com/gzreviews/r38381.htm

Are you interested yet? My interest has certainly grown by something like 200%. And the game's starting price point is $40.00

1UP, B+ : "Shiren has the potential to appeal to the same gamers who became addicted to Demon's Souls; Shiren is turn-based and simpler-looking, but its core premise -- you're always in danger -- is remarkably similar. Progress here is a goal in and of itself, and smart adventuring is rewarded just the same as careless play is punished. Shiren does a great job of straddling the divide between accessibility and challenge, presenting a roguelike experience that may well appeal to any RPG fan. Or at least, any RPG fan willing to give it a chance." - http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3177882&p=44

IGN, 70 : "Shiren is improved, though not by much. The better visual flair and actual story make the game more interesting. The less sadistic difficulty also makes it easier for newcomers to get into, though the lack of a higher difficulty may make it too easy for the longtime fans." - http://wii.ign.com/articles/106/1068074p1.html

Gamepro, 4/5 stars : "Shiren the Wanderer is an addictive and well-constructed roguelike from Atlus with a plethora of dungeons to conquer and a wide assortment of bosses. Reviewer Alicia Ashby walked away impressed for the most part, but was a little upset by Shiren's similarities to previous Mystery Dungeon and lack of an online component...... It's simple enough to pick up at first but grows challenging enough over time to be completely absorbing. At high levels, playing Shiren is a bit like Demon's Souls -- impossible tasks slowly become manageable and then trivial as your skill increases. Shiren the Wanderer is a hard game to put down once you've gotten into its one-more-turn rhythm, which is exactly as it should be" - http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/213933/shiren-the-wanderer/

It's in my list. The Ds version was a blast, and this looks even better, with the reduced price is a must for me.

No-hype games get actual scores on their content, not the hype. So these reviews are pretty good.

I' m getting it myself. I love rpg's like that.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I take this back then, maybe I should say instead "is a game that was not on many people's 'wanted RPG games' list"

I already played the first game for the DS and I'm definitely interested in the Wii version.

I had a slight interest, now it has grown!

I'm getting it because Koppa is my twin. :p
Actually, Rogue like games are pretty fun as a diversion from the modern RPG so I'm looking forward to this one.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the eventual price drop to $29 or lower. I'll pick it up then. I just have way too many games to play.
