Interesting article posted on gamer.blorge. Well what are your views people. Anyway apologies if this has already been posted on here.

"Don’t you just love when execs start making boastful predictions. This latest is a doozy, with Sony now proudly insisting that the PS3 will have a longer life than the Xbox 360 and that it would pass it in terms of sales before too long. Let the fighting begin.

Peter Dille, senior VP of marketing and boss of PSN, told IGN:

I’m confident we’ll be around in 10 years and I can say that because we’ve done it twice. PS3 will be around in 10 years and probably much longer than that. I don’t think they [Xbox 360] will be around in 10 years so I’m very confident we’ll pass them within that time frame. I mean, we’ve got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now — they’ve got 39 million [units sold]. I don’t even need to go out 10 years.

I’m not going to make any predictions for your interview today other than we’ll pass them, but you look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start. Well, we’re breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rear-view mirror and it’s not going to take too long to pass them.

I love the fact that Dille stated he wouldn’t make any predictions and then proceeded to do so. But is he right in his assessment of the console war and how the PS3 and Xbox 360 are going to change positions in the standings soon? I have a feeling the PS3 will end in second place behind the Wii but it’ll take a couple more years for the Sony console to catch up.

If Nintendo moves on to the Wii 2, then this generation could end with the PS3 on top. And who would have predicted that a year or two ago".

soon in relation too? it will yes.. probably not for another year.

I don't see it happening with Natal and the eventual price cut this fall but anything can happen.

Probably in another 18 months it will be tied if not surpassing the 360. Natal may or may not slow that down depending on whether casual people will buy into the idea. If Natal doesn't pull in casual gamers or people that don't normally play games, then the PS3 might surpass the 360 sooner than 18 months.

Sometime between about 10 months which is hugely optimistic and never. I wouldn't call that 'soon', personally.

meh...all we can do is wait and see...I doubt MS will let Sony pass without a fight
