Forums - General Discussion - I got summon for jury service. THIS SUCKS!

I got a letter for me to attend jury service and no idea what it is exactly.

I know they ask questions, but, I dont want to attend this sh**. First of all, I have to be there at 8 am, second of all I need a ride because I have no idea where exactly I have to go. Does anyone here knows what exactly they ask or do to you when you go to these things? What happens if I dont go to jury service?

I've not been to one, so I can't tell you exactly what to do, but it really just means that you got selected randomly from a pool of residents in the area to hear a case. They're just going to screen you to seem if you are impartial. (Meaning, if you REALLY don't want to do it, you'll need to seem biased.) However failure to show may be seen as in contempt of court, which is not good. (It may lead to an order for arrest.)

You get fined if you don't go.

Then I guess I have no other choice but to go.

Attorneys from both sides will ask questions about you and everyone else, make sure to answer those questions so you'll appear biased. That's what I did when I got called for jury duty for a drunken driving case. =)

Think of it this way. If you think it sucks you could ask the government to get rid of trial with juries. Heck, we could go to a guilty until proven innocent method too. You'd never have to serve jury time again.

Honestly, you'll spend 1 day (or less) in selection, and then possibly 1-3 days listening to a case (unless you get unlucky enough to get put on a huge convoluted case that lasts weeks). Also, once you serve you don't have to again for like 4/6 years (in NY anyways)

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Do what I plan to do if I get called up:
Eat 50 ex-lax and shit your pants. Twice.

I got arrested once, does this mean they won't ever call on me?
