Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Should I Buy a Xbox 360?

WEll HE STATED, he bought it from a PRIVATE reseller....If you buy it at gamestop lol used, you WILL be more secured from LIVE BANS Issues AND rrod. with warranty from gamestop that costs around what 35 extra dollars? They say if ANYTHING goes wrong with your console I hear you can get a new one or something.?

If you don't have a great PC, then frankly...buy it. L4D, Gears, and Mass Effect 2 are worth it alone, at triple the price.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Don't listen to any of these people. You can buy an used xbox and there is no risk. If you buy a used xbox make sure it has a date of 2008+ and you have 1-2 years of no questions warranty. Just make sure that it hasn't been opened by looking at the seal behind the faceplate...

Being that you are in CAnada, you warranty should not be hard to take advantage of in case something does go wrong.

Xbox has a lot of quality games, probably most out of all 3 systems this gen and the cool thing about them is that they are dirt cheap for older classic titles. Things you need to get to enjoy xbox to the fulest are:

HD TV...a 32 inch 720p Dynex does the job wonderfully if you don't have one. Best buy had them for 299 few weeks ago.

Online servince with xbox live. You get 1 free month with your xbox but after thats its 40-50 bucks a month, depending the deal you find on kijiji, craigslist

Haha no risk? Really? Be reasonable man. Saying NO risk is crazy even for a NEW 360. Actually, if u said there was no risk in a used ps3 that would still be unreasonble bc, even though ps3's are generally reliable, u have no idea how the system was treated by its previous user(s). Anyways, if ur going to purchase one of the 2 HD consoles, I would do your research on each system's game library. IMO and for my taste, the ps3 has the best games by far. But take a look at both system's games and then decide whether u do or don't want that 360. But then again ur getting it used, so I guess it's not really 360 vs ps3, just 360 or no 360 since u don't have a used ps3 being offered to u. Moving on, if u want it go for it. However, just so u know, 360s do have a very high failure rate. Personally, I don't know a single person who's 360 hasn't crapped out at least once. So def make sure it has a warranty. If not I'd say no way.

huh? There is risk in buying any electronics devise but if he buys a 2008+ used xbox he will have longer warranty than with a brand new ps3. Hence why I said there is really no risk involved. You roll the dice every time you buy an electronics device...but its good to know you are covered.

I would wait for natal... I predict some DSixl like upgrade when Natal launches. And the bundled natal will most likely be a better deal.

The xbox360 a wonderful console with great exclusives I would recommend anyone to get one but just make sure it not a xbox live ban console just watch out for that and the year on the back serial number

How come nobody has asked him how much?

As for buying it used, assuming it was made within the last three years, you have the warranty. That said, make sure you can see it first and make sure it has not been modded. After that, turn it on and make sure it works. If he lets you, play it for 30 minutes.

Personally, I would go for a new one since it's the safest. I wouldn't worry about the RRoD, I would worry more about what the guy did with the console. You don't know if he modded it of if it did get the RRoD and he just used the towel trick as a temp fix until he could sell it.

Since you're coming on late in the generation, there are A LOT of great games available to you for VERY cheap. Just start with the early 360 games and work your way up. Most of the greats are $20-ish and buy the time you finish those, the current greats will be down in price.

-edit-

360 - assuming it's in good working condition, $100 at most.

Hard Drive - $20

Skate - $5

If you're paying more than $125 I wouldn't bother and would just get a new one.  It will be much more, but then you get a brand new one and can get a 120 Gig hard drive.

No.You're a Ninty fan, don't turn into a criminal.

seriously: yeah but I think it's better to have a warranty with all the problems this console had(don't know if there are still problems)

Never EVER buy an used 360, unless you wanna get RROD. If u want 360 go buy a brand new one.

Thats not a bad deal at all but I would do two things before I bought it if I was you. Ask the owner when he bought the console because if it was more than 3 years ago it won't have a warranty. Also ask if you can play on xbox live for like 10 minutes just to make sure the console isn't banned.

Personally I would also get one with a bigger hdd since I like downloading and installing a lot of games to my hard drive but if you don't do that then 20gb is just fine.
