The Wii will outsell the PS2. It's only a matter of time.

No because the New Wii will be out in 2011 or 2012 and by then the Wii will only be at ~100 million. And If I'm right then there's no way the Wii sells 40 million units after the Wii 2 has been released.

if it is released in 2011 it ill be around 100 million yeah.  In 2012 it ill be more like 115 million.  That will be one of the deciding factors.

Definitely if there's no Wii 2 until 2012 it has a much better chance of outselling the PS2.

Nope. It's going to generate 10x more money... but it won't outsell the PS2. Just the PSone.

But the DS of course will.

yes it will. Anybody that saids other wise,is only fooling themselves. I'm guessing it will happen in 2 1/2 yrs.

It's a big fat "maybe". It's significantly outperforming PS2 and will undoubtedly continue to do so, but at the same time Nintendo's never been that great with post successor platform support even for their successful systems (see: GBA). I could really see it stalling around 120-130m OR cruising to 150-160m depending on how it's handled.

Yes, right before the next Nintendo console launches.

It'd be hard, the PS2 is a moving target after all. The Wii would probably have to sell about 90M more consoles which would bring its LTD up to 157M over the next few years. It really depends on whether Nintendo keeps the old Wii on the market. They may very well release a more profitable Wii successor and decide that keeping a less profitable Wii on the market is less beneficial than going for a completely new device.

Eh, who's numbers are you using?

If it's VGC, I don't see the PS2 reaching even 145mil. It dropped massively in 2009, and if this continues for 2010 (it's down about 50% YoY so far) another 10 million will take a very long time, if at all.

I think its really just a matter of 'when.'

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I dont think so, its about halfway there in 4 years, and while the buzz is still strong, I cant see it selling equal amounts in the next 4. I expect the next gen systems to release before the next 4 years have passed. WIth Natal and Arc, PS3/360 owners will at least have a "good enough" reason to keep from adding a Wii to their collection. I don't think there's as many coconuts to shake out of the tree as there were for the past 4 years.
