I know the likelihood of this happening is next to zero, but it just popped into my head. 

one thing that is working for Nintendo.. is their ability to only do things they are good at.

Why? Nintendo are a hardware/software integrated company. If they were to bizarrely jump into the phone market, it would be better to take care of both the hardware and the software side and keep the same advantage Apple does.

I wouldn't see Nintendo doing a phone. Iwata already stated that, if he would ever do one, it would just be a small function, because the most important is having great games. I think that, with Apple's ambicious intention of dominating the video game market with just an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, I wouldn't be surprised if Google teamed up with one of the three companies for developing a new console.

I think that Sony are more likely to team up with google. SE are already in the mobile scene, with the X10 coming out with Android, maybe the PSP phone will have some Android stuff in there...

I can't see Nintendo branching beyond gaming any time soon. The Wii does have a few non-gaming things, like the iPlayer, but it can't even play DVDs (can it?), so don't expect them to suddenly jump into a brand new market

Initially, back when it was Revolution, it was supposed to play DVDs with a peripheral, but there's no sign of such thing with Wii.

They would develop their own OS for their phone so they don't need to pay royalties to google.

Nintendo doesn't even included DVD playback not to pay 15$ for royalties for each Wii and you're saying you want an android based Nintendo phone.

If it happened that would be cool.' I love both android and Nintendo so a combination of the two could have lots of potential.
