Does anyone know if Alone in the Dark (PS3) is any good? Metacritic isn't really that helpful with one reviewer giving it a 95 and another giving it a 48..

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Are you implying that I am an idiot?

If yes, respect.

Not at all.

No respect for you.

Anyway, fazz didn't really tell me anything new. But I still believe that the whole baby thing doesn't work like shown in the game.

I doubt anyone plays Silent Hill games for their realism, really.

you probobly dont like david lynch much either eh? symbolism, and disturbing images for the sake of being disturbing, either go over your head or they dont.

Isn't Seven from David Lynch too? That was a great movie and it made sense. Mulholland Drive was praised as another master piece, but yeah... that movie was crap and I think he knew it. That's why he added those lesbian scenes to make the movie not a complete waste of everyone's time.

i see taste is something not everyone is born with ;), seriously though that movie is more of a thinking movie, more of an interpretive movie, and obviously not everyone will understand it.  i like how you like seven.  to me that was very predictable, and cliche.  good set design and some fun parts.  but not exactly memorable.  i guess some people like movies where they lead you by the hand and explain everything, and some people like to think a bit more.

also seven was made by david fincher

lynch made twin peaks, blue velvet, and wild at heart

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

That would explain why Seven was good and Mulholland Drive was not.

you not responding to anythign i said except correctingg your error proves my point.youre about

re as good at debating as you are at thinking for your self while you watch a movie.  im done replying to anything you write in this post or in any other post.  you slam an award winning filmmaker and have an icon and name based onbased on an ad campaign (or bad cartoon) not sure which.  so you know trying to be the film critic doesnt seem suitable for you.  but yeh anyway enjoy vgchartz.

i said id never reply, but im a break it cus i think you misunderstood my reasoning

silent hill 3 to me sure as shit makes no sense, same with mulholland drive really.

i dont like either for the story. its the mood and the feel that i find appealing.

i love wierd dreams for example, and that strange scary feeling you guget, the pure uncertainty. david lynch and silent hill can give me that.

i never said i was like you and your friends. im wierd, and i like wierd things. all im saying is sometimes things dont need a point or any coherence to accomplish what they set out to do.

not everyone is down with that sort of thing, but that doesnt make it bad.

to me resident evil is not as good as silent hill to me for example as the story is horribly cheesy, silent hill may not make sense, but at least they dont try to appeal to everyone on earth from 5 years old to 80 years old with a cheeseball story.

you and i have different tastes basically.

Remember what I said about Mulholland Drive?

It makes no sense at all, but people don't want to admit that they don't get it, so they call it brilliant.

Nobody I know could make any sense out of Mulholland Drive (nor any of their friends), but maybe it's because we are all bad at thinking for ourselves while watching a movie. Whatever you use as a starting point to make sense out of MD, you always run into contradictions.

In this thread nobody was willing to explain Silent Hill 3 to me (except fazz) and the answer to the glaring flaw in logic of SH3 (that the baby thing doesn't work like that) is written off by saying that SH has no connections to real life anyway. Then why even use humans as characters if they aren't humans?

The connection between Mulholland Drive and SH3 is that the people who say that they "get it" are unable to provide a convincing argument that they in fact do understand what's going on and that the events are following a string of logic. Those who don't get it, can't think for themselves. And if the explanation is questioned then it's said that an overarching logic is irrelevant to the topic.

What you see as a brilliant story is more like the work of a writer who has written himself into a dead end and looked for some way to get out of this trap. The result are stories that make no sense all things considered.

You have a point there. I've always thought that Silent Hill 1 and 3 are more like B-horror movies, while SH 2, 4 and SM lean more towards the psychological thriller. That's why I enjoy the latter more.

But the same could be said about Resident Evil games, being them B-horror movies, they're just better explained and they don't use paranormal things on their plots, they just use the "science gone wrong" theme, which could actually make more sense in the end.

@fazz

totally, res evil blows it with the story and the music

dives into b land. also voice acting.

but yeh only res evil i liked was 4, and thats cus it was a shooter

Nice, yeah I've been meaning to discuss this with you Pyramid Head.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories was a complete blindside for me, I was like Best games of the year Batman AA and NSMB Wii then I get to play Silent Hill to completion and I'm like O_O best horror game ever! It's made me seriously want to go out and collect the whole series and play them eventually.

I hear so many good things about Silent Hill 2 I was thinking they should definitely do a Shattered Memories version of 2 but change it to where you could be randomly brought into the frozen hell world or have something else make things tense every so often even when you're exploring. Like if there is anything to actually gripe about it's that its not that scary during those parts, but even then I was pretty tense cause I just really got into the game, but you know I feel there's always one thing someone could work on and that could make the next game damn near perfect.

@maxwell

glad you liked it! i totally agree that it surpassed what i was thinking game of the year all year.

sh 2 would be amazing to redo, but theyd almost have to keep the settings and scenes and music or it would lose a lot. its worth playing in its current form tho big time.
