Will do.

Doubt it. Wii's trending a good ~10k ahead of PS3 at this point (VGC also has them closer than Enterbrain or Mediacreate btw), another higher priced SKU and a RE5 rerelease isn't going to be enough to push past that imo.
It won't happen until March imo, and then likely not until Yakuza 4 week. I do think PS3 will take the last 2 weeks of March though (thanks to Yakuza 4 on the 18th and Hokuto Musou on the 25th). Nintendo's schedule is *really* laughably awful too. WTF Iwata, you talked about this very problem last year!?! :/

Wii doesn't come with Wii Sports in Japan, and the PS3 outsold the Wii for many weeks even before the Slim was released. You probably are just guessing. |
Well, you got me on the Wii sports in Japan. I was wondering about that as I was typing it but I was too lazy to look it up.
But back to the OP on whether the PS3 will beat the Wii in any particular week this year. Currently it seems that Wii is outselling the PS3 on a 3:2 margin. I can see a few weeks that the PS3 will outsell the Wii(Yakuza 3 release) but for the most part I think the Wii will outsell PS3 90-95% of the time.
I think it will happen throughout the year at various times, but I do not think it will happen nearly as much as last year.
PS3's largest Japanese release has already seen the light of the day. Most of the PS3's biggest franchises have already come out, and PS3 doesnt seem to have much for the Japanese market when compared to the Wii.
This is the Wii's truly first strong year all around, and I see it pulling through overall, with a much better performance than last year.
This is not a personal preference, but rather, in my eyes, realistic.
as far as its largest franchises related to Japan go, God of War III doesn't count. Western games are generally not popular in Japan, period. I don;t see GoW3 doing much better than Bayonetta to be honest.
It will have some strong releases throughout the year, such as a new Tales game (perhaps), Yakuza 4, etc...
But its largest franchise has already been released (FF13). People forget this, and it is very important.
So what does the PS3 have left for the Japanese market? I would have to say FFv13, FF14 Online both of which may not do as much as we think (although FFv13 has a solid shot at a Million). The other is Gran Turismo 5.
Everything else Sony has, is more targeted for the American market.
Wii on the other hand has more than just Monster Hunter 3 and NSMB Wii this year, as far as big releases go.
And, Wii has Dragon Quest 10 in the pipeline. It will not fall to last year's levels, and I think games such as Xenoblade and Last Story will have strong market pushes in Japan. (Esp. Last Story.)
Don't forget Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda Wii. (Metroid i am not counting because its not popular in Japan). I think Nintendo will also have some surprise hits, and Vitality Sensor I feel will be just that.
I dont expect the Wii to drop, and overall I think it will outsell the PS3, at the very least, 3:2 by the end of the year.
That said, I do expect the PS3 to outsell the Wii at some points haha. Esp when GT5 is released.
^ Metroid:OM actually seems to be a Japan-focussed Metroid game, an attempt to make Metroid popular there again.
I think it will fail though, personally...

The PS3 has MGS: Rising, FF13 Versus, The Last Guardian, FF14 and Gran Turismo 5 left
all potential system sellers and that are only the ones that are announced
The Wii has DQ10, Zelda Wii and SMG2
I think they are both pretty equal

No way, DQX alone will outsell ALL those PS3 games combined. FFXIV won't pass 250k, Last Guardian might not either. Niether's even close to "big" in Japan.
For stuff you could reasonably call "big" (ie: possible 500k+ sellers)...
PlayStation 3
Wii

It won't sell even half as well as Bayonetta. Hell, it won't even sell as well as Bayonetta 360. Enterbrain numbers...
If UC2 managed to do over 100k then i dont see how GoW3 shouldnt be able to do so as well
