Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge exceeds 4,6 Million + GT:PSP Numbers!

The 'GT5:P has covered the development costs of GT5' has been raised and destroyed before.

GT5:P has been sold at well below the RRP for the majority of its sales. Downloadable sales are for a lower price, it was bundled for a long time in Japan. There are also costs associated with the prologue that aren't covered in the 60 million rnd for GT5; manufacturing and shipping costs of the discs, as well as the fairly low costs of the code required in prologue that isnt in GT5, and hosting costs for the downloadable version.

On topic - thanks for the link. It's unfortunate we cant use it to compare to VGCHartz numbers because we dont track dl sales

If GT PSP is 1.8m and vgchartz got 1.11m sales for it, does it mean, that Digital Distribution is a big deal for PSP already?

There's a better explanation - GT PSP was likely overshipped heavily. 700k in dd is way too high.

1.8 million is shipped, vgchartz is to customers.  Also vgchartz numbers may not be 100% correct, the 1.8 million one is exact.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Let's say... 4 million copies X 20 dollars per copy, isn't that enough? (Or almost enough).

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Wasn't GT PSP a free download for European GO buyers?  That could maybe good for a few 100k alone?

The game tanked in Japan though, and the US NPD sales we got were even more pitiful (<20k launch month iirc).  Must've done insanely well in Europe, but yeah, likely way overshipped.

It's 18k +1k in DL vouchers to be exact. This just doesn't compute, did VGC that overtrack it in launch month?

I got it that way (with GO purchase). Also GT PSP was on the top of the PSN downloads in EU for quiete some time, usually ranking 1-5th since it's launch (on PSP store that is). I wouldn't underestimate the numbers that DD is able to pull off.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Wow, I can't believe a demo sold that many copies, that is disgusting lol

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos
