Forums - Nintendo Discussion - BIG RUMOR: Ubisoft involved with Nintendo's new platform?

I really hope this is not a Wii HD. Nintendo needs to deliver on the current product that has sold to 67m people before forcing them to buy a new console all over again.

If it's a DS 2, I'm more okay with it. Although I would wonder why anyone would buy an XL if a new DS is right around the corner.

An inner part of me hopes it's something completely new and unique that doesn't interfere with the Wii/DS business. Perhaps Nintendo is making a tablet? Or perhaps they are making this thing:

Why would Ubisoft be involved with a new Nintendo platform? They've jack for the current platform. If any publisher would be given first crack at it would be the one that has done the best job on the system this generation and that would actually be EA, specifically the EA Sports division. Next up would be Capcom.

Still makes no sense they would release a Wii 2 or any other new console with the Wii doing extremely well. There is no reason for Nintendo to. It most certainly won't be to please 3rd party developers just so they have another system to port their code to. The way they act now and the way they acted before they'd still just ignore the Nintendo system. Nintendo clearly seems to be able to do a nice bit with the system so they are in no hurry to introduce a new platform for their own games.

I see Nintendo releasing another add on of course. Perhaps hard drive or maybe upscaler device so games work better with HD TVs. However not a new console. That just makes no sense at all at this point in time. I won't think we'll even see a new hand held either to be honest. Another revision perhaps but the fabled DS2 just yet. There hasn't even been a proper Pokemon DS game yet. Diamond/Pearl were originally GBA games last I heard and weren't decided for the DS. Until we get a true DS Pokemon game I doubt we'll see a DS2.

Next Pokemon will possibly be DSi only, that will mean millions of sales of DSi and DSiXL consoles to the millions of Pokemon fans who will want to play the next mainline Pokemon game.

Quite smart from Nintendo, but still DS2 could be announced soon, it won't magically take away all those millions of sales from the Pokemon fans. I think DS2 will be announced this year.

Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

But it could be announced though.

Nintendo usually doesn't announce this far in advance. All version of the DS were announced months before their release and the Wii was only truely revealed at E3 06 where it was released that Christmas season. If Nintendo was to announced the system at GCD, it would come out this year. But, why ould they announce it at GDC. GDC is a conference for game developers to share ideas and leard from others (why all the keynotes are about developers working on projects). E3 is a trade show where companies show their stuff they are selling and give the press the first show so that they can report to consumers. Nintendo has not done big announcements at GDC. 06 has them announce Sega and Hudson were going to be on the VC and 09 announced Spirit Tracks and Wii firmware 4.0.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

If this crazy Wii HD rumour is true; is VGchartz going to add it to Wii sales or count it as an 8th gen system?

Why wouldn't Nintendo want developers to know theyre interested in their support? Looking at it like that makes alot more sense at GDC.

Since when is March = 2010?

I said this year, TGS, E3, DICE, tons of other events and their own conference are still coming this year.

3rd post of mine you misread, I now believe you are doing it on purpose.

Nintendo sells to consumers (gamers both new and old), not game developers. The people who attend GDC are developers who hope to converse with others. E3 is a trade show where the goal is to show off products they will sell. If Nintendo is going to release a new system, they will tell developers behind close doors. There would be no reason to show off the system to introduce it to game developers becuase they will find out by Nintendo before hand. It would be better for them to show the product as if they intend to sell it, which is what E3 is (or their own conferences). Also, unless they intend to sell it in the summer, GDC is too far away from the holdiay season. Nintendo tends to keep all announcements till the product is about to launch. The only time theyn wont is when it is on the down low (think Revolution).

@trestre: Your right, but the topic is about GDC so I assumed you meant that. You have a tendancy to attack the messanger rather then the messgae and your post have little substance to them. The fact that you are counting shows just this. Regardless, the point still stands. Nintendo does not show off systems unless they intend to release them soon after. If they plan to show it this year, they would either have to show it much farther in advance (which they hve not done with thier systems unless you want to count pre-Wii a.k.a. the Revolution) or they plan to release it at an akward time in the year. Both are very unlikely. Logically, Nintendo would show the system at E3, a trade show, and it will be available in retail that holiday season or they will show it off at their own conference in the fall and release it in the winter holiday. No matter what, if they show it, it will be released in the winter and this has been the partern will all the DSs and the Wii if you consider that it was truely shown off as the Wii at E3 06.
