Nintendo usually doesn't announce this far in advance. All version of the DS were announced months before their release and the Wii was only truely revealed at E3 06 where it was released that Christmas season. If Nintendo was to announced the system at GCD, it would come out this year. But, why ould they announce it at GDC. GDC is a conference for game developers to share ideas and leard from others (why all the keynotes are about developers working on projects). E3 is a trade show where companies show their stuff they are selling and give the press the first show so that they can report to consumers. Nintendo has not done big announcements at GDC. 06 has them announce Sega and Hudson were going to be on the VC and 09 announced Spirit Tracks and Wii firmware 4.0. |
Why wouldn't Nintendo want developers to know theyre interested in their support? Looking at it like that makes alot more sense at GDC.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
