Nintendo usually doesn't announce this far in advance. All version of the DS were announced months before their release and the Wii was only truely revealed at E3 06 where it was released that Christmas season. If Nintendo was to announced the system at GCD, it would come out this year. But, why ould they announce it at GDC. GDC is a conference for game developers to share ideas and leard from others (why all the keynotes are about developers working on projects). E3 is a trade show where companies show their stuff they are selling and give the press the first show so that they can report to consumers. Nintendo has not done big announcements at GDC. 06 has them announce Sega and Hudson were going to be on the VC and 09 announced Spirit Tracks and Wii firmware 4.0.
