Forums - Sales Discussion - Something big is about to break for consoles.

As some of you may have read in another thread, I've been planning a new TV (bought a Sony 46" yesterday) and a PS3 Slim purchase. Well, while I was at shopping around over the last few days looking at the TVs in Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Costco I noticed that none of them had any home consoles in stock. No PS3s, no Wiis, no 360s. Nothing.

I asked a manager in Costco as I was getting the TV where they were and he said they don't have anything in because their buyers have said new models are coming and therefore they are making no purchases until then. So right now I just checked Gamestop and not only do only 3 out of over 15 locations in my city have PS3s in stock, the online website says 'back ordered'.

WTF!

Where are the leaks? Something new is coming and I'm holding off on getting my PS3 until I find out.

Anyone else see anything?

EDIT: More stores....

Target only 3 out of 8 stores have any PS3s
Walmart only has bundles online (forced bundles usually relates to limited qty)
Toys R Us - no stock online, 1 of 5 locations has in stock
Best Buy none in stores

Something is coming or atleast model version changes, maybe reduced price for 250gb?

EDIT!!!!

Finaly post. I now have my TV (46" Sony) and my PS3 (250GB). Bought Assassin's Creed for $20. :)

Huh, thats a first for me; I didnt hear anything about this nor did any of the stores in my areas said anything.

Which TV did you buy?

Could be something small, like a new PS3 model (200GB) for example. Or...

Sony 46" KDL-46VL , its a Coscto specific model for only $800. Nice TV, looks really good.

Pretty sweet.

Btw, this also basically confirms to me that the PS3 is under-tracked here. Don't want to bring this into your thread, but there's no way millions of PS3's would have been ordered and sitting on shelves at normal price when retailers would have known about this 'new model' coming.

How so? If they've made orders for 2M new consoles to fill shelves, that still counts as sold for Sony.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

.... in the US.

You can't simply assume the rest of the world is the same as my one City or US in general. World is a big place.

Well, the 'gap' between VGC numbers and PS3 shipments have been quite large for quite some time If I'm correct. Also, your assuming that Sony use financial transactions to count sales, just like Im assuming they use shipments. Don't think anyone knows for sure.

@ Superchunk - Very rarely if at all are there 'city' specific consoles, and even if this is only in the US - that's still a big market and would make a big difference.

So, doesn't really 'confirm' like I said, but it makes the PS3 being undertracked more likely.
