Does people tend to purchase a game just based on review score?

Yes, 100% depend on it 0 0%

No, only use it as a guide/references 17 54.84%

Don't care about the review at all 7 22.58%

Yes, but not all the time 7 22.58%

Total:31

I for one don't really care about the review score....i do read them now and then and check out the meta critics etc.  But i won't stop me purchasing a game or neither will help me making the decision for purcharsing the game.  For example, "MAGNA CARTA" for xbox360 got a terrible review and i actually really enjoyed the game, i find it even more enjoyable than "LOST ODYSSEY" which have one of the best review in recent JRPGs on any platform.

I didn't buy ME2, Dragon Age, COD or Bayonetta.  Instead, i ordered WKC .........

I supposed just like everything in life we should try it, experience it ourselves before we can make a judgement on anything.  I do tend to believe a review score is all done by human/gamers like us......what suit one person it not necessary suit the others.....

However, i do will like to know if there are many people really just purchasing a game based on review score.  Cheers guys

I use them for reference, as I can usually tell whether a game will be good or not (for me) without reviews. Other than that, I suppose I'm one of the people who agree with metacritic scores a lot of the time, which makes picking out good games that much easier.

I dont base my purchases solely on review scores. I watch trailers, screenshots, read previews and reviews and base my purchase on all that together. For example Read Dead Redemption and Mafia 2 both look amazing to me and I'll get them even with low review scores.

Or: WKC always looked like crap to me and after low review scores I am 100% sure that this game is indeed crap, so obviously I wont buy it.

I also listen to what people say on forums about multiplatform games. I never trust people's opinions on exclusives.

I used to but not any more. I may use it as a reference and then try to get a demo or test play at a friend's house before I make up my mind.
Reason? Reviews are worthless nowadays. Perfect scores being tossed out like salad in a bunny cage and huge flaws and weaknesses being overlooked like budget breaches in a California economy report.

Some of my friends will look at review scores of games they're interested in, to see if those games are worth playing

From working at Gamestop. all the people that ask me whether a game is "good or not" simply want to hear is it fun and easy to get into (or with the case of sports games has it changed a little but not too much so it isn't hard haha). I mean they generally don't want to know what reviewers think, just if I think it is fun. I doubt the majority of people care if games have groundbreaking features or revolutionary ideas or whatever we talk about here. All they want to know is if they can pick it up and play, enjoy it, and if it is similar to things they enjoyed in the past. There's a reason Modern Warfare 2 was so popular haha.

Now for me personally, yes and no.  If it is a game I know I'll like, I don't need a reviewer to tell me if they think it was good.  But for genres I don't play a lot or ones I'm iffy on, I'll see what they have to say, but not so much on the score but what is said about it in their experience.  I wouldn't say reviews make or break me, just might save me some money as to buy a game at full price or not.

The only time this gen i bought a game purely because of the reviews was No More Heroes , and it was worth it.

I wouldn't say solely, but it's a pretty big deciding factor for games I'm on the fence about, though I also don't mind anything 70+.

If it's a game I'm really on the fence about, I usually like to use IGN and Gametrailers.

If I cared about reviews, then I probably wouldn't have played so many good games.

Sometimes reviews play a big role, other times I buy games DESPITE reviews (Nostalgia on DS for instance, fun game BTW, pretty shallow but pretty good for a first effort)
