Forums - Gaming Discussion - IGN and Gametrailers responses proof of bad things to come?

With the recent responses of both gametrailers (about the whole 9.3 U2 fiasco) and IGN's recent one is it proof that the Internet gaming community is getting worse?

Now in no way am I supporting what these big sites did because they dignified stupid comments (which gives you no respect) but the point is is that the comments made about uncharted 2 scoring a 9.3 was low and bias(gametrailers case) and it being impossible for ME2 to score higher than U2 by .1 points(IGN's case) were enough for these big sites to act childish.

Do you think we will continue to see this where review sites will stoop to the level of idiots and be beaten down by experience or will this nonsense stop and these sites will ignore these comments?

(keep in mind I dont remember if something like this has happened before)

I say to hell with all of them, reviewers are dragging g the industry in the mud. I hope it gets much worse for them so people can see that they are no different from fanboys with celebrity appeal and a paycheck to flame.

A bit cynical but screw them, we don't need them.

3 things

1) you just noticed them being like that? =s they're doing it since forever , they compare games that are popular and are not related to each other at all.
2) sites need hits, why should they care about nerds crying scores.
3) who gives a damn, just go make something useful instead caring about them.

Hence the rise of gaming "editorials/flame bait."

1) Yes they have compared games that have nothing to do with each other....but its the comment "deal with it" that ive never seen a review site do.....thats the issue here.

2) Yes sites need hits but there are better ways to do it than that.......I do think that it was legitimately written by the writer and was allowed by IGN to garner hits.

3) I dont understand what your saying there.

The reviewing industry is already a piece of crap. But I do agree them actually responding was just plain stupid, since:

1) Gametrailers' response only raised more questions, mainly being why MW2 scored higher if Uncharted 2 was marked down for "not being original".

2) IGN were just adding fuel to the fire by saying "Mass Effect 2 is better than Uncharted 2, deal with it, fanboy". I mean, it's bad enough they compared 2 games of 2 different genres, but to say "deal with it, fanboy" is just completely unprofessional.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Games sites have always been run by fansboys and rarely is there a true journalist amoungst them. As the game market matures and boardens, our expectations rise and these sites are still suck in their old fanboyz ways.
Eventually there will be a site for 'professionals' (doctors, lawyers, CEO's) who play games, kinda like what Playboy is to the smut magazines. That's probably a few years away but not too far off. In the meantime, we're stuck with them.

My take on those were that those comments were warrented based on the circumstances but no matter if it is warrented review sites shouldnt stoop to this level.

I don't know about GT, but IGN made a particular effort to explain their perfectly reasonable position.

The drama came from fanboy responses, primarily from people that read the punchline instead of the article.

Oh I know that, and I wholeheartedly agree, they should ignore them. But I was also pointing how their responses only makes things worse.
